I'm starting a tinfoil hat conspiracy theory that the embracer group became the "embracer group" to embrace small devs and then kill them off. This company keeps killing perfectly functional studios.

they got greedy with money, then a big saudi deal fell through and now they're in the hole big time killing stuff off to save their asses.

And people say monopolising things under one company isn't a problem these days...

Yeah, it seems like they went on that buying spree to make themselves more attractive to sell.

Fuck Embracer group

Embracer is just trying to ruin as many Christmases as possible, aren't they? By the time this is over Embracer might be able to match EA for number of studios they've bought and shut down. Hopefully those impacted land on their feet, but given the state of the industry I'm skeptical.

It's truly disgusting when companies do layoffs near Christmas. They should do it a month or two after instead.

It also seems strange to me how many layoffs there are. Surely they expected the huge increase in demand during COVID to return to typical levels now that people are going back to the office. The industry is still incredibly profitable, surely having more staff around to make more games is still a profitable strategy...

I think the amount of studios Embracer has bought, they were looking for some kind of big return, like that $2 Billion deal they mentioned, which didn't go through.

If they had the plan from start to actually run these studios themselves, I don't think they would have closed so many so close to each other.

So we aren't getting the new Duke Nukem this year?
