It's a bit ridiculous that the DMCA is being used to prevent people from repairing their equipment in the first place.

[–] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 39 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Not just a bit. It's late stage capitalism dystopian hellscape kind of ridiculous.

Man there sure are a lot of late stage capitalist dystopia nightmare hellscape things happening these days.

Sure is good that we don't live in one of those, right fellas?

The DMCA is an infringement of property rights (actual ones, not Imaginary Property "rights" that are actually just temporary privileges) and should not exist at all.

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 18 points 8 months ago

Not really particularly ridiculous. It's exactly the kind of evil it was designed for. Just a broader application than advertised.

Dark Brandon strikes again.

[–] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 8 months ago

Don't get in between him and his ice cream.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Damn, that IS super close! Did it move there in January 2017?

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Confirmed: superbowl is rigged by McDonald's rump

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

...what does the Superb Owl have to do with Trump’s McDonald's addiction?

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

You're just saying that because both the superb owl and Trump tried to eat you 😛

[–] Neato@ttrpg.network 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I'm surprised this didn't happen under Trump with how much he likes fast food. Though I guess Biden does like his ice cream...

The ice cream machine just happened to be working that one time Trump ordered 100 of everything on the menu. Had the machine been broken that day, perhaps today we'd have better ice cream right to repair laws.

Great. Now fix healthcare.

[–] Heavybell@lemmy.world 20 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You guys absolutely need healthcare, and I don't want to diminish that, but at the same time this is potentially a big deal as it impacts right-to-repair, sustainability, etc.

[–] Boozilla@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Yup, I get it. It's important with regards to farm equipment and many other things. Just drives me crazy how they can't cover the fundamentals, but they get fired up about McD's ice cream.

[–] Estiar@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

With better Right to Repair laws, healthcare costs will go down as they won't need to call the OEM every time a capacitor pops

[–] Boozilla@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Yes, I'm all for Right to Repair.

Unfortunately it's only one part of our very broken healthcare system.

[–] pdxfed@lemmy.world 23 points 8 months ago

Do printers next

[–] fidodo@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago

Thanks Biden

[–] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 8 months ago

Lol... when it literally takes an act of congress to stop the most widely known and discussed perverse incentive.

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

Truly the peoples president ;-)

[–] Neato@ttrpg.network 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

What's the reverse of eating the onion? I definitely thought this was fake until seeing the source.

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 2 points 8 months ago

Something towards the parody horizon.

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Fucking finally.
