I think if they could have seen into the future they would have noted that their descendents are all rich, and that the anglo empire has continued into the 21st century, although with its capital in a different place, and said "carry on"

You don't really need anything fancy, but... I use Kitty because why not make things pretty

The thing about a movie or TV series is that every worker involved in it has already been paid, which makes stealing them morally fine. This is not the same thing.

It's not that difficult, and you don't need to become an expert โ€” just find out what you need to achieve what you'd trying to do rn. Tbh I still use online calculators for permissions a lot of the time. Maybe see what you can find in the servarr wiki on the subject?

Don't do that. I've done worse, but that's no excuse. You need to use the setgid bit (chmod g+s) of the parent folder and then look into the umask config option for whichever of your applications are creating files/directories... and what umask even is ofc lol

What have you been trying to do exactly? I've got into plenty of permissions messes in the past, and my gut feeling is that you might be overcomplicating things here

Ngl I do get the arguments against gun control in the abstract, and I'm maybe even sympathetic to some of them, but then I look at America and ehhhhhh

Yeah a lot of effort has been put into presenting socialism/anarchism/Marxism as a reaction against humanistic liberalism (Stephen Pinker perfected this narrative), but the reality is that they are a development of it, and I do think we need to regain that sense of continuity somehow

And also on computers generally lol.

The situation: I'm trying out Bitwig on my geriatric computer, which is running Linux Mint. It seems that I can't do very much without spiking the DSP, leading to awful glitchiness in playback. However, according to btop, the CPU (i7 4770) load isn't breaking 30%, spread evenly across the cores.

Things I have tried:

  • uninstalling speech dispatcher, which helped
  • tweaking the pipewire config, which doesn't seem to have helped much

So... what is the bottleneck here?

EDIT: the (main) issue was that my user didn't have real time priority permissions. An edit to /etc/security/limits.conf has improved things immeasurably.
