Thanks for the detailed response. I intentially dehumidify our living spaces so I don't think I have a spot that would match your stated requirements for the time being. I will definitely bookmark your comment in case my dreams of installing a greenhouse come to fruition in the next couple years.

Could vanilla orchids do well as a houseplant? I'm zone 7b/8a so I've had success playing around with semi tropical plants, but I don't have greenhouse space to overwinter frost intolerant plants.

There's no risk for a factory condition unit. This rumor started after people with units that had been dissasembled and reassembled had issues with vertical orientation. It turned out that it's very easy to mess up the seals that keep the liquid metal thermal interface in place. So units that had been previously taken apart had liquid metal slowly leak, causing overheating and/or shorting.

If you haven't taken the cooler off the mainboard, using the vertical stand is just fine. I haven't seen any evidence of factory assembled units suffering leaking. It does imply that user servicing of ps5's is a bit risky, and you might need to be wary of used units where you don't necessarily know the service history.

To avoid unnecessary confusion, taking the covers off to add an m.2 ssd does not add any risk.

The cabin is usually pressurized to the equivalent of 8000 ft asl. So the dispenser does have to deal with pressure changes. A simple vent hole aught to take care of that though.

We don't even have AGI at datacenter scale. Expecting AGI in a mobile platform that runs off batteries is just wishful thinking at this point.

A smart tv without an internet connection is usually close enough to a dumb TV. It's not like your TV needs regular security updates so leaving it off your home network is fine.

Why not? The ps5 is good at pretending to do 4k, but is very much on the anemic side of graphics power for 4k gaming. Why wouldn't people want a performance bump if it's available and they can afford to upgrade?

There is also the issue that if building nuclear plants takes too long and is too expensive to be the solution, then such a project would also be too late to matter. Also transmission losses likely mean this is a solution for much less of the world population than you think. If we had a truly global lossless grid, then we would need much less energy storage to begin with.

Impracticalities aside, absurd geoengineering what-ifs are entertaining. Thanks for sharing.

Pumped hydro is both very geologically limited and environmentally detrimental. That technology alone will not substantially reduce the need for other power storage technologies/ peaker plants.

Imagine thinking that PhD's and postdocs aren't exploited by capitalism.
