Chromatic abrasion would make a cool name for a Photoshop plugin with grunge/lo-fi features though.

And parrots and wooden legs.

That still sounds on the cheap side for Europe, in some countries you'll easily have spent north of 2k€ on all the mandatory lessons and exams, or even more if you're a slow learner or fail the tests a few times.

Basically this is similar to my "organicness" argument. Reddit grew over many years and these niche subs got created as they were needed, not all at once. On Lemmy and the Fediverse in general, there will be another layer of organic growth and organisation with regards to federation, where instances will clump into "neighbourhoods" that users can choose.

I've seen "Lemmies", I've also seen "sublemmies" which brings "subs" back on the table imo. Alternatives are /c/s, commus, com's, etc.

Yep I'm self employed now and still working my ass off but sometimes I day dream about just getting a job like you describe where you just have super low responsibility, simple tasks and lots of downtime. It's a shame this usually means shitty pay, so I'm more focused on making my skills valuable enough that I can work only a few days a month.

It doesn't work when the citizens hate the country more than anyone else does already (France).

No that's also just memes and shitposts.

Isn't that basically how it is in the UK where most cops don't have guns?

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 11 points 10 months ago

That depends, the gendarmerie in France is part of the military, but there is also regular police which isn't. European cops aren't perfect, but it varies a lot by division and country and overall I'd say that your typical every day police you encounter as a normal citizen is fine, they're usually at least somewhat polite and won't shoot you or your dog for no reason. Some of them might go on ego trips now and then with some youth or something.

Where you see more issues is with riot police which is starting to look like a RoboCop army in some countries just smashing into protesters, or some other anti-crime divisions where they act like cowboys and leads to some events where some kids get killed or something like that, but it's much more rare than in the US.

In some countries like in the Netherlands they are next level and you basically don't see them or when you do they're always super nice and polite, using positive tactics and just generally doing public service work which is what all police should be.
