They get the free food but ya their benefits are worse

There's torrent clients on Android. You don't need a computer

I work in a Meta office nearby, it's the talk of the town, many people think it's true.

As someone who works at Meta:

Ya the benefits are nice.

I think "cross posting" but like as a symlink would be great for this - i.e. if you click on the post in either community, you see the same comments

Suggestion: Easy account migration between instances

Imagine you register to Lemmy.world, but realize you're missing half the content because it comes from Hexbear or Lemmygrad users. Migrating to Lemmy.ml is a solution for this

That's a good deal for this laptop and while Nvidia sucks on Linux (you'll have some support issues), that graphics card isn't the worst offender.

Tldr yes buy and install Linux. You'll have to tinker for the graphics card though.

I doubt that's the case since you can freely link to external sites elsewhere?

Alyssa is an absolute legend. Every time I read a banger blog post I check the author, and on multiple sites she comes up as the OP.

Reddit thread paints a sad picture. Product founder without a technical co-founder. Isn't able to articulate market fit. Doesn't trust his engineer's work. Yikes

From a entrepreneur point of view, this looks like a clear monetization attempt. Gather content from federated communities, sell to investors on the name "fediverse". B2C is generally very hard to pull off because there's so much competition so I doubt they'll succeed, but there is that saying about seeing what sticks on the wall.

Also, from both a user and entrepreneur point of view, you need to break into markets by starting small. The fediverse heavily leveraged the open source community to get started. I personally would not be on Lemmy if Lemmy wasn't AGPL. ClubsAll doesn't have that.

With no ill intent, I hope they fail. They're not contributing, and we don't need proprietary cancer in the fediverse.

For me, it's hands down Flameshot. The best screenshot tool in the world - I've got it hooked up to my PrtScrn key for super easy screenshots.

I also love Kwrite as a Notepad++ alternative, and KolourPaint as a MSPaint alternative

Upgraded Ubuntu to 22.04, where Firefox is Snap by default. Wasn't going to fight it, especially since Canonical has made 3 blog posts talking about how much faster they made Firefox on Snap.

Since then, I've had subtle but annoying issues.

  • Can't Google things that have a colon after the first word- i.e. error: file not found doesn't work
  • I get notifications for pending updates
  • Other apps like Gnome's Software take a minute+ to load on my beefy computer

This isn't even a meme. Snap is trash. I wanted to be neutral and not join the "hate train" but seriously. Snap is that bad.
