I think that's partially why the well connected and famous billionaires are such miserable assholes. Their lives really aren't that great because they're all uninteresting losers surrounded by uninteresting losers who sold their souls for money and power and spend decades between having any moments of real joy.

I hate MTG but lately I've agreed with her twice:

  • I want a national divorce from red states
  • Release all of the ethics reports

Are you saying for me? Cuz facebook sucks ass too.

I remember the old Internet. Honestly, lemmy is the only thing I've encountered that feels even like the newer part of the old Internet.

Lol, nothing like waiting until the last possible moment to do the tiniest thing that won't even accomplish anything at this point and then writing an article about it.

I just tried that...went searching for a room and amongst some software package rooms the two I stumbled upon that made me nope the fuck out are "COVID-19 truth" or similar, and some pro-trump mafia thing that had the n-word in its description. I tried to search for something even in the state of california and the closest I got was a gay hookup channel.

Thanks, I fucking hate the Internet now.

Narrator: they ruined it

every new tech has curves for their maturity, cultural & societal fit.

I'd believe this "nothing to see here" narrative if recent "advances" such as social media didn't have measurable negative impacts. Things can get worse, and technology can assist that.

The voices coming out as skeptical of things, and the watchdogs telling you early on that these newly introduced things may present a problem are ultimately part of the apparatus that gets you "cultural and societal fit". That doesn't happen automatically and it's called "the bleeding edge" for a reason.

Ultimately, I'm also not so sure about AI being a fad at this point. It sure looks like enough capital is invested in this stuff to make it be a thing even if nobody wants it.

It's almost like they suck at making games now.

If history is any guide they'll moan and complain, 2% of them will not buy the subscription, and then the other 98% will bend over and take it up the ass.

I think we're all a bit like the f35...lost and running on auto-pilot.
