Yeah I agree, I set up a synology as a little summer project and I didn't want to go out and source parts and put a nas Linux distro to do everything myself. Synology is newbie friendly and kind of holds your hand to do everything even dynamic dns. However, if I were to get another nas, I would be more comfortable setting it up myself.

I don't think bluesky was federated. Not in the sense that anybody can start making bluesky servers in their room
not really flashship phones. Well the Xiaomi ones might be flagship but I don't really keep track with those phones
Optimus makes insane builds, check out his mini itx build with a fucking rtx 5090. It's also smaller than OPs pc build
I mean I do have that case, and I don't think it fits in to any of my backpacks, I guess I need to take everything out of my backpack and then it will barely fit if I shove it in.
From my experience, just use it and make it seem appealing. Maybe send him mastadon stuff from time to time and he'll warm up to the idea. I mean I don't get what's too hard about it, it's kinda like email.
