It is waaaaay too easy for anyone to go on a r34 site these days lol

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 82 points 1 week ago (2 children)

These days? Mah boi, back in my day you'd very easily end up accidentally watching something horribly illegal just seconds before your computer is bricked by a Trojan.

Sometimes, you weren't even looking for porn!

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com 39 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I remember the first porn site I ever went on.

It was whitehouse.com and I was looking for Whitehouse.gov.

It was in the school library too. On a beige crt monitor!

Life was simpler back then.

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I remember back in 1998 in my Desktop Publishing class, a girl wanted to sign up for an email address. I told her to go to hotmail.com to create one. She typed in hotmale.com and got a whole different kind of website than she was expecting.

[–] deathbird@mander.xyz 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I think I was looking into renfair type stuff once and told my friend to go to chainmaile.com (long gone now) saying "that's 'mail' with an 'e'". He did not go to the right website.

the lawless years of the internet were beautiful, i experienced most of them when i was a child, and i turned out normal (that's a lie, of course, i'm unsure how watching happy tree friends or one man one jar at 12 years old fucked me up, but i'm sure it did, somehow)

[–] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think there's an entire generation of us that thinks tubgirl, goatse (I remember reading the guy's story, or at least someone pretending to be that guy and writing the story), beheadings, and hatchet vs. genitals are completely normal experiences. Who didn't watch all those, right?

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Seeing tubgirl, goatse, and meatspin put a temper on my curiosity to the point that I can say I've never seen two girls one cup, even though I think it was the most "popular" out of all of those except maybe goatse. Hearing the description was enough to sate any curiosity.

I also know that Rick rolls are wholesome because it replaced surprise links to those. Plus Rick Astley is a genuine treasure and I'm glad becoming a meme didn't end up hurting him.

these days?

I've had r34 sites bookmarked in 2000, when I was a teenager

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Sure, but you weren't accessing those sites from a computer that fit in your pocket and that you carried around with you at all times.

[–] L0rdMathias@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not at all, a magazine is basically a computer but with faster data access speeds while sacrificing some read/write capabilities.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Also, like Lemmy, video is not supported.

[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (7 children)

What do you mean by video not being supported on Lemmy?

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

You sir, have great taste

[–] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Jokes aside, seems to be an issue with apps supporting it, because it does work on the web app which means Lemmy itself does support it.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)
[–] taladar@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That isn't Lemmy, that is just your client.

[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It was a mp4 video and it displays fine for me, but heres a webm and tell me if you can watch this one

[–] Tehdastehdas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I see this one, but not the other one. Web interface, Firefox, Linux.

[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Try through this https://sh.itjust.works/comment/18867622 If it doesn't also work from it then it may be your network blocking the video url origin domain or something of the sort. I'm on Librefox in Linux and checked with Firefox and both displays it fine

Plain lemmy.world . Now all work, so the issue was a fluke.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Probably your interface, lemmy default interface seems to display fine .mp4 .webm .mp3 the devs maintaining the interface you're using either havent been made aware of it not working or just simply need this compatibility to be ported over

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

yeah, i guess jerboa just doesn't have that feature yet

[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Forgot to mention but .mp3 is also supported

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Linking off site works, but try uploading an .mp4 or even an animated .gif directly to a Lemmy instance. Most don't support it, and the ones that do had to add the functionality themselves.

[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

I have uploaded many animated .gif and .webp just fine, though I didn't try uploading mp4 because if it somehow works I don't want to waste storage from the instance I'm on with videos

GIF (sorry that was the last one I got saved)

WEBP

[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Weird, it's saying the videos are an image to you? What client or web interface are you on?

[–] h3mlocke@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago
[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] klao@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

For @festnt@sh.itjust.works it also didn't load and you both seem to not be using the default lemmy interface which seems to be the common factor, if you come on this thread in the default lemmy interface you can see both https://sh.itjust.works/comment/18867622

I guess both interfaces of you two dont support video embeds, maybe someone didn't report this issue yet in their repo

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not until Blackberries and the Sidekick were a thing.

[–] the_wiz@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago

Ahem.... Atari Portfolio + Serial adapter + accoustic coupler and every phone cell let you connect to your BBS of choice

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The internet had a phone number! You had to call in, and pay by the minute!

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

[modem noise intensifies]

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

Still don't. The small screen is immersion breaking.

[–] lessthanluigi@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I keep forgetting how young I am

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Don't worry, that's not a long term kind of problem.

[–] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Good. Nothing wrong with porn or erotification of things that don't exist. We're just horny beings.

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

The worst is when you come across story spoilers for something in your backlog when you're browsing.
