Netflix plan to bring even more ads to even more parts of it's service.....and I plan to continue not being a customer.

TBH it's just for their ad tier.

Back in the day, the "ad tier" for shit was free and you only paid money to not have ads at all.

Back in my days they had no ad tier, and their prices were reasonable.

Damn, how old are you that you remember when TV didn't have ads?

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think they were talking about TV :)

But yeah, I used to export shows from my Tivo, decrypt them, run them through comskip, re-encode to divx them with handbrake and store them on cds :)

Most 30m shows had at least 7-8 minutes of commercials. Some cartoons had 2 shows in a 30m timeslot, commercials up to the 1m mark, 10m of show, commercial break to the next show, 6-7m of ads, ran up to 2-3 mins before the half our and had another commercial or three shove in the outro.

Now that cable has moved into a streaming online service not much room left for TiVo. Commercials will reign again.

Yeah, that makes my heart sad, but my tivo went out in the trash before 2010.

HDMI copy + comskip still exists, though.

You still pay money to have no ads at all 🙃

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Woosh....

Now you also pay money to have ads.
