I would say that Uber is a shitty company. Tipping is bs, you should get paid a decent salary and it's your employer's responsability to do that.

Ok... Unfortunately, the current model is absolutely not that. So I'm not going to make the person making Uber deliveries to make ends meet suffer by stiffing them on the tip

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's a good way to perpetuate the cycle. Also, who tips BEFORE getting a service?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Someone who wants to order delivery food because they're pretty much forced to?

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can give the delivery driver a tip when they get there. I've been doing that for decades.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah I know. I also imagine that's the #1 way they get stiffed on tips so might be less likely to accept the delivery

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The only one being cheap here is uber, don't be thick.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would love to live somewhere without tip culture, but I don't.

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're part of the culture. Just don't tip.

I live in a relatively low income area. The people who are turning to these delivery gigs to make ends meet are not the ones that I have an issue with.

In fact, if my tip was enough so that they could maybe stop work early that night, giving them time to spend with their loved ones, then I'd consider it a win.

Not gonna be a dick to those people. They didn't create this system.

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But you are all perpetuating it. It sucks but it is a vicious cycle and you're in it.

"You criticize society, yet you participate in it. Curious! I am smart!"

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Uhm, no? Participating in society does not require you to follow every "norm". If everyone did that, nothing would ever change. Don't be thick.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah that's the point. That's why I put it in quotes.

I was referencing this meme: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/we-should-improve-society-somewhat

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's a terribly misguided meme.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 week ago

So you disagree with this

The comic has been popularly used as a retort to people who imply one can't make complaints about capitalism or other aspects of social life while participating in those systems.

You think that only people who have removed themselves from society are allowed to criticize it?
