In their defense, most of the time when someone just posts a YouTube link on social media it's a complete waste of time. Video is very slow to get to the point, that's why we're reading!

This particular youtuber is know to be "slow", but thorough in the topics he covers.
This particular video has an "extra" 30m, you can stick to just the first hour.
The TL;DR is that solar makes more sense than coal in the murican Midwest.

"solar makes more sense than coal in the murican Midwest" - Thanks, I actually don't need a 30 minute video for this.

No one has even cared to say yet whose it from. Maybe I'm even subscribed. My point is if the person who posts a link doesn't care to say a word, I don't care to click. Everyone here is a random trolling hack unless they show otherwise.

It's Technology Connections, and I can't imagine being so cynical that you assume every single poster is trying to ragebait you unless they cite and summarize every link. Like, why even be here?

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

"assume every single poster is trying to ragebait you unless they cite and summarize every link"

Nope, that's not it. Wrong conclusion. I explained elsewhere.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

"Everyone here is a random trolling hack" doesn't leave a lot of room for alternate meanings.

Would you understand better if I turned my sentence around?: "Unless they show otherwise, everyone here is a random trolling hack." Take your pick, but taking away words is on you. When that poster suggested grid batteries should be underground, that was a signal for playtime. If you want to take that kind of talk seriously, you don't need me anymore. At least my troll sensors warned you.

I'm not misunderstanding you, your default assumption is that people are bad actors until specifically proven not to be. That's crazy.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

When you start calling people you talk to "crazy", you fail to show otherwise.

You can copy paste the transcript (or download the vtt subs with yt-dlp) into any AI and let it hallucinate a summary for you.

Ooh is there a website that does this? I want to bring it down to one step without visiting YouTube.

[–] Commuting4375@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Clicking on a link without knowing the website it leads to?

most of the time when someone just posts a YouTube link on social media it’s a complete waste of time

Completely different arguments. This is moving the goalposts

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago

Fair, I assumed they meant the channel in context.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It's not moving goalposts, it's level 1 and level 2.
