I don't know if this is the right solution, but a big reason I stopped bringing my family on city buses was because of belligerant personalities making things stressful/scary as fuck on 3 out of my 4 last rides (and less frequently but still really dangerous experiences before that) The frequency was just getting too high and I hit my limit.

Hopefully I just had really shit luck, but if it can happen to me, it can happen to others, and I really want public transit to work.

But all it takes is a system that can't prevent a few rotten apples from spoiling it for everyone else.

I would be absolutely shocked if these cameras had any actual impact on these kinds of experiences. They're more likely to use it to track "ANTIFA terrorists" (aka, progressives) with it than improve the quality of your business ride.

And “dangerous urban youths”

Obviously their part of BLM... because... you know ...and that's basically ANTIFA!

As a regular public trans rider here in KC, I keep my head on a swivel. I've ridden for years and have only had two dangerous close encounters with homeless people, but as some have said, it's unlikely surveillance will do much to change it. You're probably more likely, statistically, to run into danger driving or riding in a car.

It's security theatre and the footage is probably being sold to train someone's AI model and sent to the fed without a warrant to tag to the profile they have on you.

That said, I carry a stungun for my personal defense, but I 100% would not use public trans habitually without some means of self defense.
