From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Is this like a reference implementation or something they expect people to run?

It looks like it's going to be a staging ground for things to be merged into Weston proper, along with potentially some newer and better features coming to it exclusively or first.

As long as it's open source, sounds like a win to me. More AMD embracing Linux as a first party OS is good in my book.

Holy shit, I love seeing team red balls deep into linux. One thing is making your driver open source which is freaking awesome, but a compositor? That's cool as fuck.

On the other hand, their software to flash GPU VBIOS is proprietary, requires downloading from some third-party websites, and they are quick to DMCA the shit of anyone hosting it on GitHub. They're definitely not saints (neither is any capitalist corporation to be fair)

Let's fucking go... I've only gone with AMD since switching to Linux, and have yet to find a reason to switch.
