Huh, I wonder why this sounds so familiar.

Went down the hole, part of it soon to become a Microsoft data center. Makes sense when you have access to a shit ton of fresh water.

Just look up Foxconn in Wisconsin if you want a preview of what’s to come.

Or TSMC 4nm fab in Arizona, a complete failure obviously.

Foxconn was very different than TSMC in AZ. I have problems with the fab but saying it is a failure is hopefully sarcasm. Fuck Trump though. https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/semiconductors/tsmcs-arizona-fab-21-is-already-making-4nm-chips-yield-and-quality-reportedly-on-par-with-taiwan-fabs

It was sarcasm and I’m terrified nobody noticed (otherwise they’d downvote me to hell for attributing anything positive to Trump).

Ha, I gotcha. ✌️

Much like he gave concessions with canada basically telling him what they were already agreeing to as if it were a new thing, is this repackaging something Biden did and trump wanting a fucking cookie for?

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 38 points 1 year ago (1 children)

More or less. It's the CHIPS act

[–] singletona@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Figured Trump was going to wait til closer to the midterms to start taking credit for that. Guess he's desperate enough to not wait for it to actually start paying out.

I doubt Trump will be alive when those fabs come online. It takes years. In the meantime he'll place tariffs on technology imports without having the alternative domestic production.

I've lived thru some of the madness for 15 years. You are totally right on the money. Orange fart face will be a stain in a box long before anything comes out of a fan anywhere. He's got nothing to lose promising stuff though.

Common corporate tactic. Company pledges to invest billions in new this or that. Years later project is abandoned due to unforeseen delays.

[–] rottingleaf@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Likely this, and those 100bln are a lot for the right people involved in the tremendous effort that will unfortunately fail, but you never know

[–] db2@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Fuck that guy and everyone that attaches to him.

Is this so he can give China his blessing to take Taiwan?

[–] THX1138@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago

So bankrupt and abandoned in a few years? Gotcha.

[–] Deello@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Assuming this actually leads to anything and we now have a functional US fab, wouldn't this be the dawn of the $5,000 iPhone SE?

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 1 year ago

TSMC already has a functioning US fab

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I thought the government didn't have any money!
