Honestly, this is probably one of the few good things coming out of this tariff war.

Should have accomplished it the right way by getting rid of the loophole that makes those sites so profitable instead
What is the loophole that makes them profitable?
I believe they are referencing the de minimis tax rule that exempts items below $800 from import tax.
Trump did end the de minimis rule. The executive order was made April 2nd; the loophole closes May 2nd. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/03/de-minimis-trade-loophole-to-end-may-2-white-house-says.html
The other reply is correct, they get crazy cheap shipping rates by sending small things. Like every Temu package costs taxpayers money to subsidize it
This is such an awful idea as it stops us from buying international packages from anywhere. The 'loophole' is already closed for China.
And still not enough to curb the amount of trash being produced, shipped around the world and then trashed locally when it doesn't match the expectations of the buyer / rips after putting it on.
Yup. There should be high enough tariffs that it discourages shitty trinket buying... But focused on the crap, not just a blanket
What does this have to do with technology though
E-commerce platform changes?
Basically, the effect of tariffs on the chinese e-commerce platforms.
Their eCommerce platforms are not changing from a technology perspective. They are raising their prices. There is no technology related news here.

I don't shop on either, but somehow Shien started emailing me and Gmail report spam and unsubscribing isn't stopping the emails.
Block the email sender and don't use the unsubscribe button as that can have malware
Can you elaborate about having malware through unsubscribe buttons ? If you have some exemple too to facilitate my research it would be great. Have a nice evening
Not necessarily malware, but clicking on any link in the email, including the unsubscribe button, will let them know there is someone reading, and even clicking on links in the mail that goes to this address.
For that I knew, though thank you for your answer :) have a great day !
Here is Firewalls Don't Stop Dragons latest podcast. He is interviewing a cyber security expert and at the time stamp I gave he talks about the malware briefly. I've also read about this in the past as well but can't supply evidence.
