I used to wet toilet paper and tissues and place them over the faces on my dolls, and then they would dry and harden and I could make masks. My mother expressed that this is not how we should play with dolls.

I think that's super creative!

God forbid children have fun

This is what patriarchy wants to take from you

No, I don't remember a single instance of play pretending to be a bride. I do remember several of play pretending to be a Dad though. For the record - I'm still a straight woman, always been. I don't know what lady in pink is going on about.

I got a 2 liter pepsi bottle and filled it with a bunch of crazy shit to try and make a potion. Things like toothpaste and ketchup and a bunch of other horrible stuff. Seeing it coagulate inside like some sort of homunculus made me think I was really onto something

[–] some_random_nick@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I tried something similar, but I was using small drops of parfume, some grass I plucked outside, other random organic stuff and a pot. The pot was on a lit stove. You can imagine how delightfully it must have smelled...

I always had strange feeling like I'm pregnant (can't explain exactly that feeling) but I had feeling, and kinda wished I could experience actually being pregnant. Well turns out I was not really a man, I was trans girl. I was never fat, but I did had little bigger stomach and would get weird and kinda happy feeling of it actually being me pregnant. I never had sex, and I know, and knew back then how to become pregnant but still got that feeling

Like I don't plan on having children or marrying, at least not in traditional sense but I do wish I could experience pregnancy and be surrogate mother.

You can do both. Source: my weirdo daughter.

[–] bigkahuna1986@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Anecdotal point, my daughter also does both.

I made scrambled eggs out of sticks and leaves, and I used the camcorder to make stop-motion videos of my toy cars

Can relate but I made potions in the bath. With various colors of shampoo. In actual glass test tubes and such from the science supply store (probably not wise @my parents but all the little glass bottles were adorable).

Holy shit you just reminded me of my childhood.
I remember mixing all the things I could find in the bathroom because I thought it would make your hair grow faster and might be the secret to immortality, because none of the scientists would have considered mixing dove and palmolive together.

Completely plausible! Have you aged since? Or stopped aging at 27?

Edit: If not maybe you needed to add a few drops of purple eyeglass-cleaner sample.

[–] phlegmy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I have aged since but I'm not quite 27 yet, so maybe it worked?
I'll try adding that eyeglass cleaner and let you know how it's going when I'm 40.

Remindme! 13 years

[–] Kaput@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Ah! Not a chance, everybody knows you need to put that mix in the freezer for a few weeks. Preferably with a rock and a marble at the bottom.

I brewed alchemical potions for my action figures - Batman needed to stfu and drink his protein shake!

Why pretend to be a bride when you could pretend to be a dinosaur ?

[–] atomicorange@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I never pretended to be a bride. I didn’t see many weddings as a kid, so probably not a lot of reason to latch onto that. Plus, pretending to be a princess is much better! Fancy dress, but more color options and you also get to boss people around. Also, no lame boys needed.

[–] twice_hatch@midwest.social 9 points 1 week ago

To this day I've only attended one wedding and one funeral, I'm more sheltered than most real princesses 👸

[–] volvoxvsmarla@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

I never played princess. I always wanted to play queen. Married, mature and with power, sounded like a much better deal.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Does anyone else find it weird that it's not completely uncommon for pre-pubescent girls to fantasize about their wedding? Why are they thinking about marrying someone when they're not even old enough to be attracted to people yet? Is there a biological reason for this?

[–] groet@feddit.org 6 points 1 week ago

The "biological reason" is "societal preconditioning". Its Disney movies, toys marketed towards small girls, television, social media...

Despite many advancements in equality, marrying a rich man is still seen (and marketed) as a live goal for women.

Also, wedding and princess are pretty mutch the same thing for a girl. Pretty dress, center of attention, presents, etc. Its not about "getting married".

[–] lenz@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

There is no biological reason because weddings are a social construct we made up in the first place. Not every human society even has weddings/marriage as a concept. It’s just purely societal conditioning that teaches little girls that marriage and having kids is the only future they can expect. I was never interested in marriage as a young child (duh), but my mother always talked as if that future was inevitable for me. It’s hard not to think about something everyone treats like fate.

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

...i think the social conditioning to marry prince charming was profound; kind of like religion, we all want to believe in someone to sweep off our feet and make our dreams come true...

...i don't have my finger on the pulse of generation alpha but for awhile i hoped generation Z might leave that baggage behind them...

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I mean yeah, both? Married my twin, married daddy, also ran around with sticks hexing things.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I dissociated with a ton of tv. Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!
