Their asses are so very chapped by this whole situation and I love it. I hope the EU slaps them again for this move.

Good way to identify that you won't be subject to the App Store tax

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Good way for Apple to say “Don’t come crying to us for a refund.”

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Like they would refund you anyways

Apple has an incredible return policy

"Hello, I'd like all my personal data returned please!"

They have played us for absolute fools.

My experience with Apple has been more like

[–] abobla@lemm.ee 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Looks like someone at Apple is butthurt :D

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Butthurt" implies personal offense. This is about maximizing profit, nothing else.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah that's why EU should take a cut of that profit because is behaving in bad faith. Governments allow this, why?

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The EU just fined Apple half a billion Euros and has imposed larger fines in the past.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) Full Year 2024 Results Key Financial Results

Revenue: US$391.0b (up 2.0% from FY 2023).

Net income: US$93.7b (down 3.4% from FY 2023).

Profit margin: 24% (down from 25% in FY 2023). The decrease in margin was driven by higher expenses.

Your point seems to be that the fine is about two days profit.

If you did something illegal and got fined two days pay for it, that would probably get your attention. You might think twice before doing the thing again. If not, the EU can fine them a larger amount next time.

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 2 points 1 month ago

The EU can do a lot more than fine them. With the whole USB-C port issue the EU threatened to straight up ban all Apple products from being sold in the EU. That's a hit Apple won't be willing to pay.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 1 month ago

Under this logic, it would imply that fines stopped apple and other companies from fucking around...

Narrator voice: it didn't

[–] pycorax@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago

Didn't they get fined or something by the US for lying about policies related to this issue? I can't imagine the EU wouldn't be even more strict on this considering existing precedence.

A lot of court cases will come with a judgement where it's important to implement said judgement with how it was intended.

This, obviously, is not what was intended. I think it'll have a funny side effect of people now beit able to see when they're being extorted by apple, but still.

We're I the EU, I would fine the hell out of apple for this bullshit. However, I'm not and something tells me that this is as far as it will go, unfortunately.
