How is this not the Idiocracy timeline? I'd anything it feels like the pace of the "dumbing down" is too fast.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The president in Idiocracy sought the help of someone smart.

Y’all need to remember that and realize we are way past this movie.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

He could also form coherent sentences, was in Terry Crews-shape, and didn't shit himself once. We're already well into Idiocracy 2: Electric Boogaloo territory.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

and it was the AI assigning jobs to people too.

[–] Wazowski@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Idiocracy would be a vast improvement over our current predicament, no joke.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Yeah, there weren't leagues of malevolent rich assholes seeking to make the world worse for their own profits. Just a bunch of idiots who apparently forgot how to think.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ignorant but willing to learn. And laugh about farts, not violence.

IIRC. Maybe I should re-watch it.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Don't forget the Dil-dozer!

[–] MyBrainHurts@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 month ago

Absolutely, idiocracy was too optimistic. In their version, it took 500 years to get there.

We'll be there in a generation, maybe 2. (If we have that many generations.)

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Camacho would be such an improvement on reality nowadays...

[–] superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 month ago

Ya, at least he recognized there was someone out there smarter than him and brought him in as an advisor.

[–] MyBrainHurts@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I hate how increasingly accurate this movie has become.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 24 points 1 month ago (2 children)

As is usually pointed out, the similarities are not strong.

President Camacho actually wanted to help his people, hired the smartest person he could find, and listened to his advice.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And stepped down as President in the end to let someone else lead. For a better comparison of leadership now, look at Don't Look Up. Far more realistic in so many ways.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I'll also throw in Iron Sky.

[–] Suburbanl3g3nd@lemmings.world 4 points 1 month ago

The problem with that is the world has to get bad enough for President Camacho to help the world. We're in the Pre-Camacho era

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I literally saw a comment about a month ago on Lemmy saying "what's next, wrestling matches in the white house?" Or something like that.

Whoever you were, you fucking called it

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 4 points 1 month ago

They've been discussing this for the past couple of months at least though.

UFC to host first-ever fight event at the White(trash) House

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

I'm so embarrassed to be associated with this country. I've only grown less and less patriotic as time goes by

[–] Launch@piefed.social 15 points 1 month ago

We live in a joke of a country

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

President Camacho approves

[–] YesButActuallyMaybe@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

At least camacho listened to tiny Head smart guy.

Yes we are in the timeline where the stupidest most over the top attempt at playing a stupid president would be a better candidate than the current president.

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

But we do have smart guy. Elon Musk will solve all our problems

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I just meant the MMA bit. He was a champion!

Trump must really have a huge penis eh?! What a big boy.

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, watching two ripped tattooed dudes wrestle in their underwear while inside a literal cage. Macho af

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My favorite thing is taking pictures of them grappling, then putting a black censor bar over the trunks so it looks like they're having sex. Turns out it's really really easy to make it look gay(er).

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Probably just a coincidence that Paramount is purchasing UFC exclusive steaming rights in a seven year deal.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

skydance a trumper, trying to save the dying stream industry, trying to get the conservative audience on board.

When are these “Alpha Males” going to turn on the pedo in chief because they certainly look like a bunch of beta cucks right now

[–] Hamlam282@piefed.social 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

UFC started to become fascist, absolutely ruinimg the sport. UFC In the facist house

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

We need more politically and philosophically astute sports.

[–] bathing_in_bismuth@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Dana White at the inauguration was such a fever dream experience.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

his creation of trying to make the trashy SLAP-fighting a thing should tell you as much, he mustve seen the UFC is declining, and need a new grift.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

its basically glorified bumfights, allegedly he doesnt pay most of his fighters well, unless they are the face of the company.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

Truly Dystopian

Ackshuly, isn't dystopia in the future? So, what is this then? Oh yeah, fascism.

[–] CannedYeet@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

This is the best thing Trump has done this term

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Was the WWF (or whatever the criminal wrestling organization goes by these days) booked?
