Also the same for Austria, where the CIA with — with the help of the worker’s union (their president Franz Olah) and social democrats — installed GRDAGGER, funded one of the most vile tabloid newspapers and funneled union money to the rightwing party, which is now the biggest party in Austria.
But the PCI and the "historic compromise" did their part as well!
NATO is not a defense alliance, it's a subterfuge for imperialism, they are unified imperialists if anything — I wish people in the left would realize this. It's concerning how many show support for this organ of bourgeois control. There are a multitude of such examples as shown in the meme where they shown their true colors.

This is in no way a difficult topic to research.
Uhm… the wikipedia page is extremely vague, none of the google results come from a reliable source… so the only conclusion I got to is that Operation Gladio existed and people were pissed when they found out, but it’s unclear how many people were involved and what exactly they did other than waiting for a communist take over that didn’t happen. So the meme stating that’s the reason for Italy being right wing seems a fairly wild extrapolation.

Not to be rude but it took 2 seconds to Google this by just restricting to edu urls. Better would be reading books and the writings and testimonies of those affected. When I say it's very easy to research I mean it is straightforward to find the materials and read them. Just reading Wikipedia and the first few Google results is not research, you have to be curious and keep going just like with anything else. NATO's Secret Armies is a popular read.

This is the kind of thing that only those targeted for infiltration are likely to be aware of at the time. States still do domestic spying and infiltration of socialist groups, jail them, etc. In the UK, "Spy Cops" is a fairly recent discovery where the UK government had cops join socialist orgs undercover. They befriended people, got involved romantically, even had children before ghosting, having fulfilled their "mission". Organizers of movements end up dead in surprising ways, with odd correlations. A conspicuous number of BLM organizers of Ferguson are now dead and I recommend looking into that.
One thing to consider is that these programs essentially worked, or at least anticommunism won through its various methods, not just terrorists. Europe has no substantial communist movements any longer outside of maybe Greece and Serbia. In most Euro places any inkling is oppressed by the liberal state apparatus and they target small groups that do things like read or protest genocide or help people unionize.
There are places where communist agitation is more active and the state violence and terrorism is greater there. The most active are Maoists like in India and The Philippines and the states there routinely arrest and murder them, generally for siding with indigenous people that want to secure their land against mining and other exploitative interests. Many are martyred for this work.
