Citizens for Rural Coweta says that it is not against data centers, but argues that they should be placed in preexisting industrial areas to mitigate threats ranging from industrial sprawl and construction traffic, to pressure on local water supplies and air pollution from hundreds of on-site generators. The group also has questioned a Prologis projection that the facility will generate $100 million a year in taxes to fund local services.

I hope they don't fall for this, but ..

everyone’s pro-environment when it’s their own back yard getting converted to concrete.

100 million a year in taxes? Fucking hah, they will get a 2 million dollar tax rebate from the local government

In the past two weeks, a Project Sail publicity brochure has begun appearing in mailboxes. Featuring images of families in clothing emblazoned with the American flag, the mailing appeared to be an attempt to appeal to the conservative-leaning county’s sense of patriotism.

That's so blatant.

Probably the only reason it isn't working is that the company behind it is based in Silicon Valley.

They're going to have to find someone "from around here". (And go behind their backs to pay off city leadership.)

The data centers want your water, less landowners to fight over running all the infrastructure, and a rural government that is dazzled by the promise of the tax revenue. Which will probably be less than expected.

"Don't call me dirty," says the pig wallowing in a patch of dirt turned to mud by his own urine and feces.

People in the article are upset because of the blatant pandering. Data center tech bros handed out some flag shirts on photo shoot day to score easy points, expecting Georgians to lube up for the red white and blue, but must've been laying it on too thick for the simpletons' liking.

What I'm saying is that the reason SF tech bros imagine the average Georgian as a stereotypical caricature of the southern idiot is because the average Georgian is a stereotypical caricature of the southern idiot.

If you think rural Georgia is such a shithole, why in the hell would it make sense to build a datacenter there? Just keep your shit out of their shit if you hate them so damn much.

If there's sufficient water and land you can put a data center anywhere. If you're going to screw over the locals somehow it's better to do it in a place that's relatively poor with no real power to fight back against the pollution, utility increases, and noise that follow.

Because they put their shithole in my America and have been helping to ruin it for everybody else. Georgia can't have it both ways where they're a state full of backwards morons and also dignified people worthy of respect by default. They'll have to put in the work to earn it back first.
