So he's going to use the BMI to tell whether someone is obese or not. BMI is great for statistics, but terrible for assessing individuals. A lot of military guys do bodybuilding and would be assessed as "obese" by the BMI even though they are fitter than most.
For example: I work out, have no visible fat, can run 10k under 50 minutes and still fall right into the "overweight" category because I lift weights. And I don't even consider myself particularly big.
Meet height requirements twice a year as well? I wasn’t even aware the military even had height requirements, are folk shrinking or something?
BMI is just weight / height. BMI is what they really want to use, which is a primitive metric.
They do have height requirements in the sense that they use such standardized equipment that you cant be either extremely tall or short and still serve. Like you cant be in the navy if you cant fit in the beds on a ship, which is logical. However that same person might be able to fit in somewhere outside the navy depending on how tall they are. But if youre 7 ft tall you probably just cant serve, as youre too tall not to be a liability in some way pretty much everywhere.
That said, Im not aware of anyone whos height significantly fluctuates (outside of normal everyday fluctuations) on a month to month basis

I've only seen two headlines so far on lemmy about this speech, and they're both making light of it and only focusing on pretty meaningless details. I know what community this is, so I'm not complaining about this one.
Everyone needs to read the details of what he said though, because it's terrifying.

Like 2/3rds of Americans are overweight or obese. It's probably the biggest crisis that faces our military readiness.
But Drinky Pete doesn't care about readiness, he cares about how it looks. And he certainly doesn't want to take a constructive hand in actually fixing it.
This is exactly the type of priority someone who has spent most of his recent life sitting in a makeup artists chair surrounded by a estheticians. - note that might not be a word.
I predict a lot of people are about to purposefully start failing PT if it's actually going to lead to being kicked out like this is implying and not just limiting re-enlistment.
This another step to get the military to only have members that are willing to act on illegal orders for the god king. Same reason they are removing FBI agents for things they did 5 years ago.
I hope that the people who are principled enough to leave, are also principled enough to finally fucking resist.
Its not necicarily being principled that would make people do this. A lot more people want out because they don't like being in the military than the people who want to leave for purely ideological reasons.

No, read the details of his speech. It it absolutely terrifying.
To get them all in a place where they can all talk to each other offline around an imfamously paranoid person, for better or worse.
