"Lost" makes it sound as if it wasn't a deliberate decision. Our corporate owners sold the companies off that fed us, moved them to Asia, kept us angry at those foreigners stealing our jobs and now keep crying to get some more money. Fuck them.

On the plus side, we have so, so many billionaires. Like a few thousand.

So, worth it?

Everyone knows you want as much income inequality as possible. That's why it's a win condition in civilization games right?

produces far more advanced AI models than China

Do they though? American models are inefficient imitations of middle-management at best and they aren't even able to break even, meanwhile China has successfully integrated them into huge projects.

Yes? Its pretty clear American models are ahead of Chinese ones. A drone swarm like that isnt really technically impressive AI usage. You should see the US military integration if you think coordinating 200 drones is impressive.

First, we are talking in the context of AI usage. Is the US military swarm you speak of run by AI and managed by one person with an intermittent signal? It's not the number itself, it's all the other aspects. That's multiying drone power by 200× compared to a one drone to one pilot situation.

Yeah, 'far more' were 2+ years ago. I grow more and more disgusted with Merican coping and exceptionalism. It's childish and embarrassing af..

You're an ML user. America could come up with a miracle drug that cures every disease known to man and you would still be finding ways to seethe about how America is coping and seething.

America could come up with a miracle drug that cures every disease known to man

And then the average USAling would never be able to afford that drug even if bankrupting themselves. And your big pharma would also keep it out of the hands of most of the world by patenting it and keeping the price artificially high. And you'd all still boast that you discovered that miracle drug and all the rest of the world is inferior to you.

Yes, they do. There is no consumer AI model anywhere in the world that's anywhere near as advanced as GPT5. China tried to drum up interest with Deepseek, but it never took hold and the hype quickly died down because it was an inferior product.

Not to mention that the AI models go beyond just the chatbots. The American AI models used in medicine, science, and research are the golden standard. That's not to say China doesn't have tech of it's own, but the gap is there.

Maybe the billionaires can buy some advanced tech manufacturing facilities and whatnot 🤷‍♀️
