Tbh if its a social/discussion based website, it will have federal agents monitoring it. Lemmy isn't free from this either, though in our defense we are probably pretty low on the watchlist (but then again who knows)

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just in case....

Hey ICE. I'm Canadian.

Fuck you.

[–] Baguette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

"My lawyers advise me to not comment on this further" is my statement of choice for most situations

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ok homeland security, good luck arresting all them AI bots.

[–] beejboytyson@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

This is how stupid the people in charge are. They're literally trying to arrest bots.

Deleted my account years ago.

  • the new home algorithm is filled with problematic subs, and is an opportunity for algorithmic propaganda
  • After forcing emails it’s been downhill
  • Needing to app for “incognito” is suspicious as hell
  • I do not like their leadership
  • The website runs like crap, and the redesign is not new at all. Every time I see the old design it’s a breath of fresh air and several hundred MB back to my OS.
  • Lately all is filled with US critical posts that get deleted for no stated reason.
[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)
  • You are getting auto banned by AI and your appeals are also reviewed probably by AI.
[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Just don’t upset the though police or post in any subreddit that accepts posts.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Now they let you hide your history, making it harder to find the bot accounts.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Literally the only purpose of doing that bs. A small percentage of users even went to the profiles to prove our case. That’s why they started that bullshit scout looking at post history makes you a loser stalker. Jokes on them i don’t give a fuck of some Nazi thinks I’m a stalker.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Ironically, if you just assume every blocked history is a bot account, that's better accuracy than before trying to puzzle out the actual history.

[–] Kkk2237pl@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The main reason I stay there are niche subreddits.

Even bigger ones are dead here.

I saw that 2-3year ago people try to copy paste stuff from reddit, but I see its discontinued.

What happend?

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That was when Reddit killed their API for apps and started charging money for it. It lead to the first lemmy exodus.

Around that time there was a lot of attempts to build community and some people felt it was useful to bootstrap lemmy with Reddit content.

It mostly resulted in a lot of dead end posts and crap, so I think it got dialled back a lot. It was a lot of noise that people hated/defederated from.

I only lurk on reddit for the porn now.

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I'm defo never gonna be allowed into the US. Ever.

Good.

Means I'm less likely to get shot. Ever.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

These people will not be contained to the usa.

You have allies in the states. Don’t abandon them.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I have several allies. Most of them LGBTQ+. If shit goes down we're getting them to apply for asylum here.

[–] JamesBlonde@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hopefully they never invade your country either

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wherever OP is, the U.S. is probably already there, in some capacity. You can say it's not an invasion, but could you ever really make us leave?

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I'm 100% certain Reddit also fully cooperating with them. They run CBP recruitment ads. Fuck them, fascist collaborators

[–] dizzle18@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

The first four years or so that I was on Reddit, I never once received a ban for anything. Since Trump was elected, I pretty much got temp bans every couple of months. Every one was from me being mean to obvious Russian trolls. And then this morning, I got permanently banned for a comment I made over a week ago, that according to Reddits own metrics, received a grand total of zero views. I called a fascist a, um, fascist, and that he wasn’t just licking boots, he was deep throating them. That was a step too far, according to Reddit. And now I’m here.

Reddit has been leaking information to the feds for ages. They had a warrant canary that is no more, it has ceased to be, and bereft of life, it rests in peace since 2015: https://www.aclu.org/news/privacy-technology/bye-bye-birdie-reddits-warrant-canary-disappears

It has been a while since spez sold himself out completely. Leaking user information to special interests is part of the silent agreement that has kept them from being under investigation, but it also has gotten him invited to the sort of Epstein gatherings that other Silicon Valley tech bros have gotten invited to.

Got permabanned for up voting a post about ice having their secret identities found out as it was 'inciting violence'. Because law enforcement should be protected from public backlash as the piss on the Constitution and practice illegal acts on people, it seems to reddit mods.

Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.

[–] OctopusNemeses@lemmy.world 78 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (6 children)

Reddit is State Department agitprop. This leak is probably a tiny fraction of their operations on reddit.

It's crazy how successful that platform is because nobody suspects it. Redditors all hate the other social media platforms. They cannot fathom that reddit is just as bad or worse.

But why is that. Is it the illusion of control. Because ostensibly its a user curated site. Because they think they have voting power. All of these things have proven to be completely false time and again. Yet the illusion of reddit persists.

I used reddit for over a decade, but I was never willing to buy reddit gold or support it because I didn't trust any site where I shared my political opinions to have those opinions tied with by real name or any other billing info. Same with discord. At least with lemmy, you can support it without tying it to your account.

I'm certain the Reddit management allowed the tracking.

It's a good thing I got permanently banned from Reddit just for saying "gill o' teen". Like this is America, it's free speech.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I got banned for updooting comments about Luigi...

(Free Luigi!)

Is Homeland Security chasing bots? Because that’s the bottiest name I’ve ever seen. If so, please continue. 🍿

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 126 points 3 days ago (10 children)

I find it odd, but a lot of newer users on Reddit go with the default suggested username and those follow the word-word-0000 template.

At the same time, it might be better for privacy to do that since it's less likely that someone can track you across platforms if you use the generator built into each platform.

Is that why reddit was IP blocking people from seeing content even though they weren't logged in?

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

That happened to me the other day. I did absolutely nothing about it and it had cleared up 15 minutes later.

[–] FalschgeldFurkan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you're not using a VPN, try resetting your IP by unplugging the router for like 30s - that is, if you're still interested.

Fun fact: the Startpage proxy works on Reddit, albeit buggy:

spoiler

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I did this too and I was still blocked. I ended up creating an account and was able to view content logged into an account. I really didn't want a reddit account though.

Learned from growing up in a communist dictatorship: don't discuss politics and religion with strangers. And even with friends or acquaintances, don't discuss it in writing. It doesn't mean you can't have strong opinions, but don't make them public. Talking (not writing) one-to-one or in small groups eventually toppled almost all communist dictatotships, so there's absolutely no need to broadcast your opinions, unless your goal is to be martyred.
