That's an easy one. "I'm sorry my comment sounded insensitive. I use humor as a coping mechanism for grief."

Shit like this, more often than not, only turns awkward because of the delivery, not the joke itself. If you are going to take a swing at dark humor, you only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. Those opportunities come once in a lifetime.

But for real, you studder, you mess up the setup, you get too nervous to laugh at your own joke. Anything but a perfect delivery with you being the first to laugh to easy any question your audience might have to it being a joke and youre fuckin dead in the water.

Remember, dark humor done right is like a kid with late stage pancreatic cancer... they never get old🙊😂

Nah I don’t see how you could deliver this well to someone who doesn’t also have a pretty dark sense of humor who you know well. I don’t think it would be unrecoverable as long as you came off apologetic if the other person didn't appreciate the joke, but in think the chances of them taking it well to begin with are quite slim regardless of delivery.

I don't get it, Qt 3.3 was released in 2004 but 2005 saw a major version jump to 4.0, there was no Qt 3.14

Once again: tell them you're a greenposter; they'll infer the autism as the cause of the gaffe.
