Ah, the old merge and commit genocide.

Seen this before, we don't need a sequel.

[–] chtk@feddit.nl 106 points 1 year ago (4 children)

merge and commit

Are we talking fast-forward or squash merges?

[–] Routhinator@startrek.website 50 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Squash, definitely squash.

Bonus points if the different branches are all large, have a decent amount of overlap, and rely on different revision dependencies. And pushed through with minimal review or oversight.

As an older Millennial, I keep thinking Yugoslavia still exists. And the US 9/11 attacks happened last year.

[–] einfach_orangensaft@feddit.de 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I recently watched 'robot dreams' good animation movie from 2023, setting is 90's new york. It was so strage seeing the twin towers in the background during the entire movie. But then i realized the new generation has no first hand 9/11 experience and would probably dont even notice.

I wonder how many lemmings understand this is a Beach Boys reference.

Do they still get a lot of radio play in the USA?

[–] TAYRN@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (7 children)

Do they still get a lot of radio play in the USA?

I think it's safe to say that anyone in the USA who still listens to the radio knows the Beach Boys.

[–] pixelscript@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Radio?

Oh, you mean the app with the heart my mom uses?

Yugoslavia 2 isn't on my 2024 bingo card, but if they make the flag look cool...

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 52 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Meanwhile I'm here thinking it would be nice if the whole world was made up of countries of that size with a global alliance that will fuck up any country that starts getting all imperialistic.

[–] match@pawb.social 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"the circled region needs more countries. please break up the big ones"

[–] LittleBorat2@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Dear Mr. President,

There are too many Balkan countries. Please eliminate three. I am not a crackpot.

[–] Potatos_are_not_friends@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's me writing to the US president.

I mean do we really NEED two Dakotas?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Do we even need one? I propose we give them back first

I'm sure they had no idea what they were doing when they randomly circled the Balkans and presupposed that there was no problem with their proposal.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

Yea, prime c/thatsthejoke material.

[–] Colour_me_triggered@lemm.ee 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sure! What could possibly go wrong?

[–] 0x4E4F@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

To be honest, things went wrong because the person who knew how to keep the piece died, so... nationalists rose to power (they didn't rebrand communism though, so most got onboard the loony train thinking this is about communism and who is against it), and that was about all that was needed in a powder keg like the Balkans... a lot of war time profiteering as well, some people got very rich during those days... blood money, sure, but it didn't seem to bother them. Some of them are still in power, or their children.

Bottom line, none of them are communists, period. They're thieves and killers.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Why is it, every time some regime claims to be communist, they are never really communist?

I am a bit bothered by how the modern borders of Croatia seem like they are designed just to prevent Bosnia and Hercegovina from having a coast. I get that you can have a thin country, but they are really pushing it. Give them one beach!

Tito intensifies

[–] Gabu@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago

They're not entirely wrong... Quite a bit of the division comes from pre-modern events and decisions.

[–] pewgar_seemsimandroid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)
