The point is that they are not a thing unto themselves, they are people hired by the commons to do a job. They have the same rights and responsibilities, they go in front of a civilian judge if they fuck up. Also, as a rule, non-civilians are not permitted to police civilians, at least here. Being a civilian BTW is, and should be, a higher status than not being one, not a way to say "not part of the cool in-group".

Airline crews are also in a respected and trusted role and operate machinery that can cause the deaths of hundreds to thousands of people. They even have ranks and stuff. I've never heard anyone say airline crews are not civilians.

between being a civilian and being a Police officer

Also, in Europe, police are considered to be a part of civilian society. Here, "civilian" means "not part of the military". Police officers are civilians.

As if the people making the firing decisions knew the people they fired and their "good attitude" before COVID.

This is plainly just the financial class pushing back against recent advances in wages by inducing a recession.

That's just between EEA countries. We're free to levy tariffs against third parties AFAIK.

a crappy job for another one.

The other job will be just as crappy. Decent dev shops are few and far between. We get paid semi-decently to sell our souls, just as people in other jobs don't even get paid properly to do the same.

Most of Big Tech (or Big Anything really) is owned by the same few people through companies like Vanguard. Shitty industry practices come from that crowd, so there's no escaping them. If you get into a neat company, they are bound to get acquired sooner or later. Fuck, most small companies actually start out aiming for an acquisition now.

You guys crashed a probe into Mars the last time you tried to use metric.

It's all the comments. I don't know what else to expect from the forum of macrumors.com.

I think they don't understand or don't want to understand the real issue. The problem is not that batteries degrade and Apple throttles the phone to protect electronics. The problem is that batteries are designed to degrade, are not replaceable, and Apple profits from this by having you buy new phones.

Shameless plug of Fairphone here. I am not buying any headphones that are not from them any more. The sound is great, at least for me (I am no connoisseur), the whole thing works OK. But when one of the straps broke, I didn't have to buy a new thing, I just needed to unscrew two screws, pull out and USB-C cable and put the new thing I bought for 10 bucks in.

The people over at marketing and the execs would actually have had to read the books to know that.

Yes, but that would mean that there would need to be serious consequences for insurrection across the board. Even for rich republicans. And that would mean consequences for rich people.

The US has to choose between capitalism and democracy again. It has so far chosen capitalism at every turn since Nixon.

This is the result of corporate America not holding its executives personally accountable for gross negligence, and the unregulated monopolistic nature of a bunch of markets. It is well known in the industry that the whole fiasco regarding the 737 Max is caused by the acquisition of McDonnell-Douglas, and its shitty management that integrated with Boeing.

Who was held responsible for those 300 people dying? Who would have been for these guys? Who will be for the next accident?

Only for Players Who Have Already Spent $10,000

This is so predatory in itself.
