Well, it's not like RDR2 had a short story, so I'm ok with that.

I suspect they want enough of a solo game to not piss off us old guys, then will quickly pivot to GTA6 online for the cash cow.

If the world and AI are good, I'll have endless hours causing chaos and jumping motorcycles.

Yeah kinda my take.

I would've been fine with RDR2 being a bit shorter, frankly, I was kinda dragging along by the end.

True, but the whole "it's time for you to go and be a man!" is a great scene.

They needed to set up red dead redemption and the whole thing of John wanting to walk away from being a bandit

Yeah, sure. I'm not saying the epilogue was too long, just the game overall.

Consider it: did they really need every scene in the game? Are you honestly gonna tell me that every. single. mission. was plot critical or would've made the game lesser in any significant way?

There was a lot they could've trimmed down or removed.

Which, to clarify, it's not like I think the length is a great crime or significantly detracts from the game. I just feel like it would've been better if it was a bit shorter. I'm not trying to compare it to something like Assassin's Creed Odyssey where it's a 100+ hour game and 70hrs of it is narratively irrelevant.

Why play a story mode when we could be buying shark cards in GTA 6 online?

I’m shocked these games still have single-player stories.

They're typically some of my favorite stories. And after everyone stopped trying to chase GTA, we don't get all that many crime stories anymore either.

I still like to go back and replay Sleeping Dogs. It's probably one of the best non-GTA GTA game ever made.

And it always makes me want Chinese food.

A Man Who Never Eats Pork Buns, Is Never A Whole Man!

Also, Saints Row II would like a word. :)

GTA 5 was honestly great storytelling, with the very interesting narrative device to see the story through 3 points of view. I've replayed that story a dozen times, each time I enjoy it

In that announcement trailer for VI, we see what I assume to be the protagonist(s) bursting into a shop, guns drawn. Imo it'd be interesting to play as two parts of a romantic relationship based around crime and a twisted sense of trust. It would add interesting RP mechanics to the strip clubs that'll inevitably be in the game, kinda like the first phone call Franklin gets from Tonya when he's at the strip club in V.

I get that vibe too, when they were in the bedroom it felt like we weren't either one of those characters but both. If they can pull it off like 5 it'll be really interesting. But I'm worried they put main story on the back burner for online crap.

Unpopular opinion, but hype for GTA 6 died to me when they showed their disdain towards Linux users. They've always been shitty towards PC, but enough is enough.

I was pretty meh-ed out by V's single player campaign. I'll wait till it's free on epic this time too

Man I can’t wait for this game!

I hope they are planning on releasing some single player DLC down the line as well. Really wish they did that with GTA V, was a little disappointed they scrapped that DLC and just focused on GTA Online.

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Prepare for disappointed, with how GTA5 performed, seems we're lucky to have single player at all.

[–] philz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Hahaha you’ve got a point

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

They wont, there are no lessons to be learned from five other than keep doing exctly as they have. Its earned so much.

I rarely play the stories anyway. I just like driving around, doing jumps, and having the cops chase me.
