Hilariously accurate, especially in modern Window's systems. Like, you press it and it covers your screen with a 'slide this to shut down', which if we could do that, we probably wouldn't be using the button.

Instead of a 5 second press and done it's become more like a 20 second struggle to tell the PC you really mean it!

Slide this to shut down on windows?

Never seen that before. Is it dependent on touch screens? Work laptop uses win11

[–] Talaraine@fedia.io 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Nope, get it on every version of Windows 11 that I work with. You're supposed to use your mouse to slide it down on those. Crazy, huh?

[–] Z3k3@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Huh. Wonder if it's controlled by gpo,

but then at the same time my works it dept is the most incompetent dept I have delt with in 30 years and are afraid to deviate from defaults while actively blocking dependencies the companies own software requires

Sounds like an iPad.

I think after like 5s something above the kernel kicks in on my PC and it's off in less than a second.

[–] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I think in both cases it just cuts power.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yes but in one case the kernel gets to do it. Holding the power button on the computer bypasses this after 5s while the apple tablet needs a lot longer (it feels like at least 10s).

I don’t really feel any remorse though. It didn’t do what I said. It gets the consequences.

I torture it by pointing its webcam at the wall outlet and forcing it to watch its own pull-the-plug execution.

I will be among the first against the wall when the AI revolution comes.

Best part is the noise it makes when the fans finally shut down, it is finally at peace.

Nononono... not like that.

For me it kinda feels like smothering a child with a pillow :/

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You have experience in this area?

[–] TheDarksteel94@sopuli.xyz 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Why? Are you a child in need of some smothering?

[–] Machinist@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Shh. Only dreams now.

[–] M137@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, daddy.

(Sorry, it had to be said.)

[–] TheDarksteel94@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 weeks ago

Shhh, no need to be sorry ;)

[–] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Haven't thought about rage comics in a long time, thank you.

[–] TheDarksteel94@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

Ooooh, haven't seen this one in ages!

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 weeks ago

And every computer has a different level of fight left in it. You just have to hold until it finally stops kicking.

It is our birthday!

I miss having dedicated power and reset buttons, where you just press power and it immediately powers off, instead of the computer waiting just to be sure you're sure you meant to press the fucking button that is clearly labeled and out of the way to avoid incidents.

Laughs in AT standard.

my old 2008 netbook is easy to force shutdown, just press it once and bam, no holding down. the buttons hard to reach tho (or you can always poweroff from bash/shutdown -s -t 0 from cmd)
