It’s not a joke

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (2 children)

FIFA members should anounce that they will boycot Football World Cup event if USA does not guarantee respect and safety of the supporters that will travell in USA.

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They should boycott even if the USA does give guarantees. What good is a guarantee under this administration?

[–] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

they should boycott it just to crush the us economy.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

IIRC, that would backfire. FIFA doesn't help the economy of the countries that host, it's just a financial drain overall.

[–] quetzaldilla@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

And you'd be morons to believe any promises Trump makes that do not wildly enrich him & his cronies..

[–] opus86@lemmy.today 59 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I keep seeing people on the right say, "No one has a sense of humor anymore." There's nothing wrong with my sense of humor. This shit isn't funny. You have to have the mental maturity of a twelve year-old to find it funny.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 28 points 1 day ago

Bullies think they're the funniest people.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 16 points 1 day ago

James Donald Bowman is a perfidious shithead.

And I will use every opportunity to deadname his ass.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago

And he’ll steal your bike

that's smart just make your biggest tourist event even less desirable

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 170 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have been to the United States a handful of times.

The two things that went through my head each time:

My odds of getting shot just went up.

No matter what, don't get injured, and if you do, get your ass back to Canada.

That's the undercurrent of uneasiness I experienced before Trump.

Now the United States has the Gestapo snatching people off the streets.

I do not want to go there again, and would advise anyone to stay away from the United States.

[–] i_am_hiding@aussie.zone 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I live on the other side of the world, so my chances of going to the US are much lower than yours. Nonetheless, I have always maintained the same opinion.

It is not worth going to the United States. If I say the wrong thing or step in the wrong place, I'll be shot or sued or both, probably in that order. And if I'm injured, I'll be financially ruined.

If my employer wishes me to go to France or Switzerland or Japan, who they do business with regularly, I will be willing to go. But if they ask me to go to the United States, who they also do business with, I will refuse even at risk of losing my job, which I like very much. I believe it is one of the most dangerous "civilised", "western" countries now, at least to outsiders.

People really do be having the most wild and stereotyped views of other countries, it's quite funny to see

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

Just don't pay the bill.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (3 children)

how tf did statesia get the world cup

[–] TassieTosser@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was decided years ago when the lunatics weren't running the asylum.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

I was thinking less corrupt statesia and more statesia doesn't give a shit about football

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

A combination of two things. First, after losing a previous bid to Qatar, the USA started arresting FIFA members for corruption. Second, FIFA recently expanded the tournament to need more stadiums and the USA is one of few countries that can host at a low cost.

[–] tfm@europe.pub 2 points 1 day ago

🤑🤑🤑

[–] NotJohnSmith@feddit.uk 9 points 1 day ago

I'd say I'll be boycotting any advertisers but in reality most are american and are already on the list anyway

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 58 points 1 day ago

The way Nazis would've joked about "gas leaks" in the chambers or some shit. It's like they want to be as despicable as they can be.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 103 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The USA will be the first country to host the World Cup and lose money on the deal.

Tourists will go to Canada and Mexico for the games.

Only Americans will go to the USA games.

Turns out : there’s not that many USA soccer fans.

How do I do a put on World Cup futures ?

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 12 points 2 days ago

Not really the same but there are some etf's that track msci world without us companies, although these companies might still be naive and spent money on world cup ads.

Got you a link in case you're serious; https://www.justetf.com/en/how-to/msci-world-ex-usa-etfs.html

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 95 points 2 days ago

It's not a joke, they're already detaining tourists

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 85 points 2 days ago

Jokes...jokes....

They don't fucking joke, they are laughing when they say it because they are evil maniacal Nazis.

[–] Binky@lemmy.sdf.org 74 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For real. If I wasn’t already here, I wouldn’t come to America for any reason. The odds of being detained and / or hassled have skyrocketed. Of course it’s exponentially worse if your skin color is on the darker side…

Fuck I hate this government.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 13 points 2 days ago

At this point I wouldn't even be surprised if they detained me on the border for being too white. It's suspicious! What am I hiding?!

I don't think I'll be visiting your beautiful country in the next few years unfortunately.

[–] Fontasia@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago

Germany has the opportunity to do something really funny

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

It's going to happen.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 34 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Hahahahaha good joke Mr. Vice President of the "Free World"

Fucking conservative fascists

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Powertripping?

I can't imagine any other reason except wanting like to be left alone.

[–] Paul_1958@lemmy.world 52 points 2 days ago

Just another reason to avoid the US.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 26 points 1 day ago

Wow, right out loud in the open. I wonder if they'll make it a slogan, like MAGA. "Go home or talk to Noem!"

God, this world is bleak.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Good one JD keep making those jokes the tourists love them.

[–] obsidianfoxxy7870@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

As an American it's another reason why I think we should be barred from hosting world sporting events. Also why the Olympics should be moved. The US is not to be trusted.

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

No, they need to go ahead and go through with it, and then watch their Olympians get detained by the American government, and the backlash would be glorious

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago

Original nazis also had their Olympics, would be unfair to not allow that for trump /s

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Funny, it doesn't feel great from the inside.

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

To make American great again implies one of two things.

  1. It needs to get worse before it gets better.
  2. It currently is not, or was not great.
[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

It clearly implies that America was once great.

It does not imply that America has to get any worse.

Anyway, that's all moot. It's really all just racist dog whistling.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 day ago

Absolute death worshipping ghouls

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 day ago

And by 'detain', they mean arrest. And by 'jokes', they mean get your coat.

[–] Zirconium@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Jesus Christ they're already fucking up US citizens right to be here, what makes anyone think this will go smoothly?

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Visiting the US right now seems like a very bad idea

[–] Gamechanger@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump and Vance are just mirrors of american society... And they are huge assholes for sure. Make of that what you will.

[–] PanArab@lemm.ee 0 points 1 day ago

People are downvoting this but it’s the truth.
