I see trackers there that have shut down officially and were 'revived' by unknown individuals, so be sure to wear a condom!

Some people say lamb skin is like wearing nothing at all, and it harkens back to the earliest known condom, a goat's bladder.

Not what I was asking , but funny nonetheless lol

I was worried it might be a bit too Reddity, but I think a little of that behavior is okay once in awhile. At least it didn't birth 40 single word replies, probably because condoms were involved.

One for sure is RARBG. Others might be TPB and KAT. I haven't heard of a lot of others which can always be dicey if you don't know how well these sites are moderated if at all.

Yeah the rarbg def has some moderation issues. I tried grabbing an episode of a show the day before it came out. Only rarbg had it up, and there was an obscure archive file inside it

Good tip for my tip, thank you

only torrent software I'd recommend

and not just for this reason but also because you can run it headless over a webUI ... self hosting is an addiction

Running qBittorrent over web UI was a game changer. I was running it off a personal PC for the longest time (usually my newest gaming machine) but finally built a dedicated server.

Genuinely the only way to deal with private tracker requirements without a seedbox.

I would just keep my PC on 24/7. Did that for a good decade before I built a server. Now the ARR stacks make torrenting on private sites effortless.

Also transmission which is also open source

rtorrent+rutorrent is my go-to

Why do this instead of Jackett?

Jackett is one of the included plugins. I recently set it up on my machine alongside the other plugins as well.

[–] Mordikan@kbin.earth 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Jackett I think is a better solution. There is a crazy amount of sources to search/select from and setting up the API key is just editing a file.

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

I used Jackett until I had to transfer some split up programs to the same machine. Some indexers needed Flaresolverr but it was broken, because my version of Jackett was a service install instead of docker. Anyway it made sense to switch to Prowlarr because I already use Sonarr and Radarr

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Isn't jackett like a server thing?

[–] theonetruedroid@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Jackett can be run on any computer. It doesn't need a server or any serious hardware. It can probably be run on a $20 Pi. It's just allows you to interact with trackers via API calls.

I use Prowlarr via Docker now a days. It's provides a much better experience to interact with othe instances of ARRs.

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 1 points 16 hours ago

Ohh server I meant it has to be run on boot so some laymen just prefer qbit search.

[–] disco@lemdro.id 13 points 2 days ago

Haven't been to an actual torrent site in YEARS

[–] mr_right@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

great but how does the plugins for dodi and fitgirl repacks work, afaik they are not trackers but do upload on them?

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They list their uploads it looks like

[–] mr_right@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I looked I can't even tell what info the plug-in looks through

I've long preferred tixati but these might be fun to try. Repository explicitly warns about safety. Some fairly big names here that I imagine IPs could be checked against their websites? Anyone here vouch for any of the lesser known ones?
