idk what OP means but dangerfield's thing was generally making jokes about these kinds of jokes, he's timeless and his acts are still funny today

i make jokes about hitting my wife - i don't hve a wife - i'm a woman

i make jokes about hitting my wife - i don’t hve a wife - i’m a woman

tbf that doesn't stop you from getting a wife and hitting her

[–] SunSunFuego@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

why would i do such a thing?

the joke´s about the shitty joke

Seemed like the "I have no wife and am also a woman" was added to make the joke seem absurd, but lesbians exist and can hit each other, so I don't know what purpose it has.

Idea for a new horror game: President Evil

Boomer humour is something else, isn't it?

As a person, I can confirm that it is, indeed, a thing that exists.

As a thing that exists, I can confirm that there are indeed persons.

Boomers failed to see that Dangerfield was poking fun at them.

Ok but Dangerfield was actually funny though

Some of my favorites:

I came from a real tough neighborhood. Why, every time I shut the window I hurt somebody's fingers.

I'm not a hypochondriac, but my gynecologist firmly believes I am.

My mother, she never breastfed me. She told me she liked me as a friend.

Nothing goes right. I joined Gamblers Anonymous. They gave me two-to-one I don’t make it.

The other day my wife greeted me at the door in a sexy negligee; the only problem is, she was just getting home!

Just like my doctor, Dr Vinny Boombatz.

applause break

With jokes like this, that's not likely to change.

So weird how comedy can shift like this. It used to be like an eye roll laugh type thing but now every time I see or hear a joke formatted like this it immediately disgusts me.

It's supposed to be self-effacing. Dangerfield's playing a character you're supposed to recognize as an obnoxious, abrasive loser. Hell, half the joke is in how desperate and sweaty and not-funny he is. An early form of anti humor is watching Rodney fail at stand up.

It's like watching Jon Arbuckle fuck up on a date or Al Bundy fail at business. You're not supposed to be rooting for these guys, you're supposed to be laughing at them.

In the same way that Batman shifted from this 70s era Sci-fi Action Comedy to a 00s Grimdark thriller/horror, we've lost any sense of humility or absurdity. All these people are lining up in excitement over a Joker that isn't funny.

It's reassuring to know he's taking the piss.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Ah, gotcha! Well that's me misunderstanding his particular standup routine as I'm relatively unfsmiliar

Satire, or a real opportunity for anons to bond with their dads over misogynist humor?

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Jokes about our partners isn’t necessarily misogyny, projecting it out to all partners would be.
