Doesnt really say anything - there have been plenty of products that were designed for specific people that ended up being adopted by others because it just was a better product for them as well

Like how Coca Cola was originay created for people with a morphine addiction. Unless morphine addiction became a lot more widespread recently while I wasnt looking.

So you’re saying if I love Cola, I should try morphine then, right?

[–] moriquende@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

yes, but also if you don't love Cola.

[–] Aggravationstation@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Lol. Get rid of your morphine addiction, switch to harmless cocaine. Cocaine, it's slightly less addictive.

[–] Sotuanduso@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't like cola all that much and I'm not on morphine, so you might be onto something...

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 14 points 1 year ago

It's just not the same without all the cocaine.

Weighted blankets are used for a number of health reasons.

People who have a lot of stress or struggle falling asleep at night benefit from them as well.

[–] Itte@sh.itjust.works 31 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Hmm... now I kind of wanna buy one.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're actually magical. Turns your body off.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I used to take prescribed melatonin supplements and getting a weighted blanket to make myself feel all snuggly and cozy I was out like a light, like falling asleep even faster. I got off the melatonin cus I was able to fall asleep with the blanket and now I have one less med im the carefully balanced system that is my meds in my body

Whether it was placebo or conveniently timed of not needing meds or actually working I love my blanket

One friend said that he would occasionally forget it’s weighted when trying to move it, then completely wrench his arm out as he attempts to make the bed

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 4 points 1 year ago

I find it weird in that I barely notice the weight when using it, but it somehow magically gets heavier whenever I have to move it by hand / make the bed / etc.

Don't fall for big blanket's obvious ad tactics.

[–] Thermal_shocked@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

They work. But get one size larger than you think, they don't mold like normal blankets.

[–] PsychedSy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I got a 25lb one and it keeps me from moving so much.

[–] AgentGrimstone@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't let that blanket decide who you are.

[–] DavidGarcia@feddit.nl 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

let me do it. I am the arbiter of autism. everyone has to ask me

[–] BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

That's the same thing my psychologist told me! I've asked her like 3-5 times if she's sure I'm autistic, and she has confirmed every time. I don't know though. What if I'm not autistic? Here are my relevant characteristics:

  • I use a weighted blanket
  • Sometimes my skin burns, and I have to shake about to feel better
  • I'm nearly always playing a drum beat in my head
  • A psychologist that specializes in autism assessments and treatment has confirmed it 3-5 times
  • My psychologist friends that have known me for 7 years are certain I'm autistic
  • I'm 100% autistic

What do you think?

[–] insomniac_lemon@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't worry, it could be something else (maybe worse) wrong with your brain that isn't autism :D

(I haven't tried one due to cost, heat, probably added difficulty w/cleaning, and cost again for the ones that might not have those other issues)

[–] Ashyr@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They're great, the whole point is they give you extra weight of a comforter without additional heat. Cleaning is easy, you just take the cover off like a duvet and wash them.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

without additional heat

Lies! Maybe it's just me, but I overheated under my weighted blanket and had to fight my way out of it.

[–] ShunkW@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I got one that is double sided. One side keeps heat in a lot more. So I can switch it up depending on the season and temperature. It's lovely.

[–] insomniac_lemon@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I just use a sheet most of the time (even now in the winter) because I overheat easily (I don't really sweat).

I'm broke so even the bottom price of $35 seems expensive, anything marketed as "cooling" or just large-weave (?) is considerably more expensive. Large-weave seems like it'd be cooler, but that is coverless so that was my thinking.

[–] PhlubbaDubba@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

I chalk it to the curbside effect and just keep on in denial land

[–] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I got to try out a friends and wanted one ever since but can't afford one :( Most comforotable blanket ever.

[–] BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yoooo, weighted blankets are the bomb, but changing the sheets is a workout.
