That's fucking hilarious.

God damned butthurt ass Pokemon fanboys.

I haven't bought this game or played it, I'm very skeptical of the company and the future of the game at this point, but I also wasn't willing to toss them out completely, because it seems the game is well-received.

This is just icing on the cake from when I previously saw that post and felt it wasn't really... proving much? I was skeptical about his "industry source" that claimed it was impossible to make character models that close to the originals while also being legally distinct.

People need to stop fucking worshiping things. People, games, companies, you name it.

We're all human, we all suck, we're all stuck on this shitty rock together, maybe we should stop holding some things up as better than others and just be fucking nice to each other.

Everything is fallible, stop worshiping games and game companies, and especially stop doing dumb, unhelpful, downright absurd shit like this. It just makes these people look like petulant children who can't get over their favorite game getting showed the fuck up.

People go tribal for the weirdest shit, I can't even imagine doing anything like that.

My favorite game is Chrono Trigger, if anyone decides to take the art style and game mechanics (and expand on them) from it to make a new game you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna play that shit, and will probably love it.

As a fan of Sega's Jet Set Radio, we got Bomb Rush Cyberfunk by an indie which is so much of a clone that it's considered an unofficial sequel, and we all love it.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You're goddamn right we do.

[–] null@slrpnk.net 2 points 9 months ago

The official clips of the new Jet Set Radio just made me go play more BRC

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Exactly, you get me haha

Nice to see someone else who's favourite game is Chrono Trigger!

Ever play Sea of Stars?

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yep but imo it failed at improving/matching the original in one important aspect: the number of skills per character. A lot of the time it feels like you are missing the tools you need to 'solve' a turn. I got to the part where I got a boat and kind drifted off since, been meaning to come back tho.

[–] TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 months ago

Yes it seems that sometimes you can't stop an enemy attack. I wonder if that's by design.

The game certainly isn't as good as Chrono Trigger, but I'm enjoying it as a nice tribute.

I've warned basically everyone to temper their expectations with palword cause I played their previous game which absolutely is just a janky ass asset flip, but palworld is actually slightly more competent and has been a bit enjoyable. Despite the crap with the differences between steam and game pass versions, I mean.

The discourse around the game has been baffling. First of all, anyone bringing up AI... Like... What? I'm not sure what they think current AI models do. And even the criticisms I agree with - some of the designs are straight up just the bottom half of one pokemon with the top half of another - are absolutely demented. I saw a long thread talking about certain pals and what pokemon they were ripping off and a good portion of them were wrong (it was ripping off a totally different pokemon) or not knowing about the base (usually Japanese) thing that both designs were based off of. Some people have just gone absolutely fucking rabid. I don't understand how they live like this.

If something comes along that makes life worthwhile, I'll worship that shit and crusade against 'whoever waters down the alcohol'. Pokemon ain't it.

[–] 50gp@kbin.social 67 points 9 months ago (2 children)

nothing more agonizing than listening to people with no knowledge about how 3d models or how games in general work talking about "ai generated games" or ripped models

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 19 points 9 months ago

Right? Dude’s whole premise is “omg he had to SCALE the models to get them to match up! That proves he faked the whole thing!!!1”

Get outta here with this dumb shit.

And “artists should be able to independently corroborate”? The fuck? Ripping assets is not always a straightforward endeavor for someone who is interested in it… why would you expect artists to automatically know how to rip assets for any game at a moment’s notice? (And spend their time and money doing so)

[–] Saledovil@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 months ago

So what are the misconceptions flying around?

[–] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 37 points 9 months ago

This has been the wildest guerilla marketing campaign I’ve seen in the last 5 months.

[–] SuddenDownpour@sh.itjust.works 36 points 9 months ago

I understand the Pokemon fanboys who lash out against Game Freak after years and years of dissapointments. I understand the Pokemon fanboys with tempered attitudes who enjoy the new products when they get a little bit better and sigh when they don't meet expectations. And I understand the Pokemon fanboys who will always continue playing Pokemon games, even when they have SwSh levels of quality, because fuck, it's Pokemon.

The ones I absolutely do not understand are those who seem to think TPC needs them to go out and just straight out fabricate lies about a game that apparently competes against the franchise they like. If they like a monster-taming franchise, shouldn't they be glad the genre is getting more popular, even through different avenues? What's the point in lying for the sake of a corporation that doesn't care about you?

What's even worse, is that after taking a look at the new, incipient Palworld communities there's also a loud minority that turns their apparent enjoyment of the game into disproportionate vitriol to spout against Pokemon. It's a shame, because both Pokemon and Palworld benefit from having large communities to discuss them with, but I'm absolutely not in the mood to sort between people worth listening to and emotionally dysregulated children.

So the proof that they admitted to fabricating their evidence is... A deleted tweet from a different account?

The proof that it's fabricated is that it was scaled? I'm a damn hobbyist 3d printing guy and even I know that a) scaling a model doesn't change its geometry, and b) different softwares have different scaling factors. I can't tell you how often I download an STL and have to set its scale to like 1000% in Cura in order to print it. I'm not printing a new thing just because I scaled it lmao

I'm not saying they did or didn't rip meshes from Pokemon, but this article is awful

Byo absolutely deserves to get roasted for trying to call out Palworld "glorifying animal abuse" but not pokemon, or, like, real life farms.

no? Last time I checked I could scale a square to a rectangle :P

Talk about projecting ...

I can't stand people who go "the thing I dislike is actually VERY problematic!!" Plagiarism and A.I. art theft are genuine issues that people should take seriously, and nerds like this trying to piggyback on the conversation to push their own agenda does nothing but cheapen the actual causes they're pretending to care about.
