I don't think it's illegal. The amount of citizen with access to enough wealth to own a car is just relatively low

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 136 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Private car ownership is highly restricted. You only have access to a car if you are a party member, are conducting business for the party, or are well connected.

Their society is very localized and travel is restricted(you need a permit to leave your county), trains and bicycles are how you move about if you aren't walking.

Nice, they've solved the climate crisis. It truly is the greatest country.

If every nation could only be a failed state with a 60% poverty level and be propped up by multiple superpowers, we could totally kick the can at least another generation.

America: Hold my beer

Those roads are probably for police and military so they can arrive quickly in case of invasion or citizens becoming uppity.

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sure, but that thing is 4 lanes in either direction. That's a lot of asphalt for a whole bunch of nothing.

Kim must love drag racing I guess

[–] hesusingthespiritbomb@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Also why the US highway system was built, btw. The president who championed it, Eisenhower, was the commander of US allied forces during WW2. While there were other benefits, his goal was to be able to quickly transport troops in the event of a Soviet invasion.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world -5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which is a fucking dumb idea seeing how shitty the US rail system is.

Bomb railway

Oops looks like no more movement for the forseeable future until we can get engineers to fill the crater and rebuild the track to spec. If you mess up repairs, the whole train can derail and back to square 1!

Bomb highway

Oops looks like you have to go around the crater, that might add a minute to your journey. If it's really big, you might have to take a ten minute detour until we can slather some gravel and asphalt over the hole.

~~you can't land planes on a railway. the interstate system in the US also doubles as emergency runways for aircraft. It's actually baked into the system on purpose.~~ nevermind, turns out that "fun fact" I was about to tell you all is a myth, according to the DOT.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago

Lmao if you think "bomb railway" is somehow easier than "bomb highway" then you are higher than the highways themselves.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which was also the real reason Hitler built the Autobahn (or rather, continued and expanded the plans that already existed).

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

And why Eisenhower built the interstates. They even used dod funding

[–] lurklurk@lemmy.world 76 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They're cosplaying a successful country

[–] spamspeicher@feddit.org 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe they are a cargo cult? Build big streets and the wealth will come!

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago

They are going all for that induced demand. Research shows that building one more lane actually increases traffic.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 52 points 1 week ago

But think of the impressive military parades.

[–] takeda@lemm.ee 49 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

LOL, if one can afford a car in NK, it must be a dream to drive it. Roads as wide as in California with none of the traffic.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No one driving on it and it’s still full of potholes and poorly patched.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

An empty road full of potholes and the only other people driving are people I probably know by name?

This is Mario Kart IRL

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 15 points 1 week ago

That banana peel with rot before it gets someone

[–] nutsack@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

I don't think these roads stretch very far.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 16 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Why are all the trees dead?

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 100 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 42 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Insane you found 4 of the same looking tree. If you look closely you can see the branch structure is super similar

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I imagine one person deliberately took all 4 pics

[–] atlas@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

i doubt it, that's too much work for one person

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 week ago

They even painted the ground to match the tree type smh

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

They are still waiting on their permits for water.

[–] napkin2020@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago

They don't want anyone to go anywhere without being extra nice. It's not car centered city, it's a huge prison.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago

They need wide roads. Who knows how fat Kim Jong Un is going to get?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

That’s a city.
