-long rambling historical lecture

-Yeah. Yeah. Sorry, I was thinking of birds for a moment. Many people in Ukraine are surprised and angry to learn they are actually Russia. What would happen if other parts of Russia learn they are actually France? Would they try to join the EU?

"someone told me that the cold war never really ended, but my cousin Lucy went to Turkey on holiday last year and she said it was really hot and she got sunburnt, so has it ended or is the cold war only happening where it's snowed?"

You're famous for being photographed shirtless on a horse. Is that because horses can't judge you, or is it a new Russian policy for reducing laundry costs?

[–] Redacted@lemmy.world 118 points 1 year ago

We know Google Translate gets things wrong sometimes so I was just wondering if Russia means "Special" Military Operation in the same way the Americans mean "Special" Olympics?

King Arthur came a lot, didn't he?

This is Philomena Cunk, a satirical BBC news reporter. They produce videos in which she interviews historical experts but only asks them stupid questions like “Were the pyramids built from the ground up, or from the top down?”

[–] ninjan@lemmy.mildgrim.com 89 points 1 year ago (6 children)

The best ones are with the philosophy guy imo, he employs the rethorical "Principle of Charity" in such a master class way which turns her stupid questions into profound conundrums which he tackles and he manages to act out this sense of being delighted to finally being asked deep philosophical questions in an interview. It's great.

Satire "reporter". Check out "Cunk in Earth" on netflix, and you'll understand. I highly recommend it.

Ngl that would be legitimately hilarious and I would watch the shit out of it lol

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago

Putin wouldn't even play around with windows. He would get frustrated and shoot her himself like, at the most, 10 minutes into the interview.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 47 points 1 year ago

I can imagine it. Do you think Europe could maybe invade the UK? That seems reasonable.

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

I had the same exact thought the first time I saw her. They look surprisingly similar.

Putin is the dictator of Russia

[–] No_Eponym@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A dictatorship is a system of government where the one person gets to help everyone out by making all the tough and boring governmenty decisions. But it’s also a system where the the one person making the decisons can be a really bad person, and therefore can make really bad decisions. So, yeah, swings and roundabouts.

I would be interested in hearing her take on Palestine.

[–] ours@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Last time she talked about Israel or the Jews she lost her script and they joke sensored the whole thing. I can expect pretty much the same for Palestine.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago

She'd probably think that a Palestine is a type of fruit

[–] darthsid@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

She would not survive after…

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 year ago
