destroy the surveillance plague now.

[–] courval@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Take the god damn glasses off!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

google glasses 2.0 basically. anything that allows almost private use of the internet in public places without anyone able to see what you are browsing always lead to porn/sexual activities.

I don’t understand why the outsourcing firm was punished. As far as I can tell, a thousand people are losing their jobs for no reason. This wasn’t their fault, and I don’t see what problem is being solved here. It makes absolutely no sense.

[–] courval@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

It's not difficult to understand really. These underpaid slaves failed their task by having morals and complaining too much so they're off to find other slaves that keep quiet..

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 65 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Meta punishing whistleblowers for doing what Meta hired them to do.

“We hired them to watch everything, and are shocked outraged to hear that includes intimate videos of our users.”

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 13 points 17 hours ago

Ah. I didn’t realize that Meta considered them “whistleblowers”. It’s still a shitty thing to do, but shitty is what corporations excel at.

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 66 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Meta contractors were tasked with viewing peoples glasses video, where the wearers did not appear to know they were being recorded. "For quality purposes". Including using the bathroom. So everytime a glasses user goes to the bathroom, a kenyan could be watching? Every time they enter their online banking credentials, a kenyan could be noting them down? Good god.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 19 points 16 hours ago

Obviously not. That contractor is blown. On to Myanmar!

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 111 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Issue 2: employees were able to manually find and view footage from smart glasses

Issue 1: meta exists

At least that’s where I’m at.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 66 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

Issue 3: People are stupid enough to wear INTERNET CONNECTED GLASSES while having sex.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 5 points 5 hours ago

Most likely the glasses were places on a nightstand or something. They mentioned this in another article. People would place the glasses somewhere thinking they are not recording and undress for example. They would also go into changing rooms while wearing glasses but that's understandable.

[–] wizzor@sopuli.xyz 10 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Perhaps they didn't wear them, the user thought the glasses were off and not recording.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

I mean ... You think all of these people just happened to set their glasses down on a nightstand and just happened to be point at them while going at it?

[–] themurphy@lemmy.ml 13 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Makes you wonder what your phones sees / hears every day.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

Probably a lot of post-nut clarity face

[–] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 4 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

That was my thought. Who the hell wears glasses while they fuck? I mean, did they WANT to record it?

I can't imagine being all nekkid and shit, shaggin someone and wearing those fucking moronic glasses. Those stupid things are a leading cause of vaginal dryness.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago

What's more surprising is people are getting laid wearing those big ass dork frames

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 6 points 17 hours ago

I would assume they were placed on a bedside table pointed in the general direction of the fucking.

But still.

Can we please not use the International Business Times? I promise I'll have a prebaked explanation someday, but until then, here's the Ars Technica article this sewage drain of an outlet is using as its lone source.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 45 points 20 hours ago (10 children)

Is it just me or is Lemmy being flooded with bottom of the barrel journalism? This is an issue in so many communities that I‘m starting to think it‘s just a few people with multiple accounts pushing an agenda of slop. And people eat it up almost every time.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago

It’s not just Lemmy. The whole world is being flooded by ever increasing quantities of shit, and filtering through it efficiently is decreasingly easy.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

pushing an agenda of slop

I tend to assume "don't know better, and moderative action for gatekeeping quality on Lemmy is sparse and delayed". Sometimes we just get Reddit's backwash because that's what's easiest, and Redditors are not discerning either.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

They know better because they have been told again and again. But they only keep multiplying by the looks of it. Lack of moderation or direction probably is a huge factor I believe.

Forget Norway!

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago

If I'm not casing a casino, I don't need spy glasses.

Must be durable glasses at least.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 2 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I would have thought they would have needed something bigger to have sex on

[–] texture@lemmy.world -2 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

ok fuck these glasses, but also, is sex really that traumatizing? we act like the act is akin to seeing gore or something. smh

[–] NewOldGuard@lemmy.ml 8 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I mean it’s a deeply intimate, trusting, vulnerable thing, and neither party here is directly consenting to sharing or being made to watch. It’s a violation of consent and boundaries, of course it can be traumatic

[–] texture@lemmy.world -4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

i didnt say it cant be traumatic.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You asked if it is, and the response was "yes".

[–] texture@lemmy.world 0 points 10 hours ago

i asked if its "that traumatic" referring to the post title saying meta cuts off 1000 Kenyan contractors. as in, is it traumatic enough to cut off 1000 contractors? id say no.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Just to play devils advocate, there are certain people that I don’t want to see naked, and certain kinds of sex that I NEVER want to see. I can imagine that some of that would be considered traumatizing.

[–] texture@lemmy.world -1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

yes, ofc i share those feelings. im just reacting to the post title.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, I’m just messing with ya

[–] texture@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

lol ... well, cheers and be well

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Its not about the sex
