god forbid women have hobbies 🙄

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 24 points 3 days ago

Good on her. Fuck the cops. Too bad the police spend must of their budgets on lawsuits instead of, ya'know, vetting and training.

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 36 points 3 days ago

Good. Seriously, I hope such actions will be met with complaints and lawsuits everywhere.

Sexual life is a very sensitive and intimate subject, and it's bad enough that she even had policemen invade it by opening the box (though this in particular is obviously a necessary part of police operations), let alone make a laughing matter out of it.

In general, though, I hope we will be able to eventually get more open about such things, so that it would be seen as a regular set of household items, even if it's hidden from plain sight.

I bet she's gonna buy so many sex toys with that money. I hope she does. (In a positive, not-creepy way.)

[–] Carvex@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Would you rather cum from a bunch of toys for $3K total or one $3K sex toy that should in theory be mind blowing?

Bruce contradicts himself a lot - elsewhere he says “a punch is just a punch. A kick is just a kick.” He also advises you to learn the form, and then forget the form.

[–] bent@feddit.dk 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Learning the form then forgetting the form is pretty normal in any discipline. First you learn how to do it, like how to punch, kick and block. Then you learn sequences and combinations. You learn these to perfection. When your body knows the moves you can start improvising and you need to forget the sequences and combinations in order to adapt.

Same goes for all art, applied science, most jobs, even social structures, economic models etc. First you learn the basics, then you learn the complex rules, when you master then you can break the rules and improve upon it.

I sort of get what he was going for, but it’s also very Confucian and kind of nonsense. I think in some of the films you see him doing little bits of Jeet Kun Do form during downtime. Muscle memory is still memory, Bruce!

How could there be 10,000 different kicks

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 27 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Cue montage of Bubba from Forest Gump listing all 10,000 types of kicks.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Roundhouse kick, side kick, chop kick, kick stew...

[–] rogue_moravec@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

Donkey kick, trapdoor kick, rising kick, jumping rising kick, jumping rising tornado kick...

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

[–] syreus@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

10 angles @ 10 speeds @ 10 heights @ 10 follow-ups

10,000 kicks

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's the fun part. They aren't all necessarilly effective.

any boot to the head is effective

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Easy answer there, the women have already spoken (pictured: sybian inventor Dave Lampert).

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 days ago

Never looked into the inventor of these things. Was not expecting English Mr Rogers.

I've seen these things in action. They're worth it.

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

I mean, sure, a little pricey, but some chairs cost as much and they're not specifically designed to make baby squirt like a startled octopus.

The 3k one but only if it comes with replaceable parts. I wouldn't want to keep using it after it gets too crusty.

In the US, that woman would be lucky if they didn't shoot her dog

I think it's hilarious that this comment section is full of support for the woman AND laughter over her sex toys. Think about it.

3k is a fair price for patter that rosey.

I love that this had any sort of consequence. I do not thinkthis would have been an option in Germany.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago

...in the form of sex shop gift card

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (3 children)

FFS do they really have to write headlines that imply the exact opposite of what happened? At first read, I thought the woman had been made to pay £3k, not that she had gotten paid £3k.

I know "headlinese" is a thing and all, but is adding the word "got" really that inconvenient?

[–] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I understood it just fine. "Got paid" sounds very informal. "Is paid" or "was paid" would be slightly clearer.

The opposite would be "fined" or "pays".

[–] MajorSauce@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I would have went with awarded.

Edit: This is partly a joke because of the context.

ambiguity makes you read the article

[–] leftytighty@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The past tense "paid" doesn't go with "laughs." Are you complaining about a misunderstanding you had for the time it took you to read 3 more words? Or do you not understand tense?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 days ago

In case you didn't figure it out, the headline is ambiguous between her giving or receiving the money. Reading "three more words" doesn't change that.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 3 days ago

Now how much do they pay for kidnapping people?
