"Vernon said the man threatened to kill him and called him a racial slur"

There it is. He felt like someone he thought was beneath him was giving him something and that upset his worldview.

That man is too fucking stupid to own a gun. Take it away, and put him in timeout.

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 61 points 7 months ago

That man is too fucking stupid to own a gun.

Or a car, for that matter.

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago (1 children)

sHAalL NOT bE NfriNGed!!111!!

Fucking apes.

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 6 points 7 months ago

Well yeah, if there’s fringe on the gun it’s a navel weapon.

…you know, I wonder if we can get them to believe that.

[–] TheGalacticVoid@lemm.ee 24 points 7 months ago

He probably shouldn't have had it to begin with.

[–] numberfour002@lemmy.world 90 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'm thankful that in all my years of working in retail, I never had a gun pointed at me. Having said that, random people get so bent out of shape about the most ridiculous, inconsequential things and it can be close to impossible to predict who it's going to be or what is going to set them off.

Based on my experiences, if a customer is being indignant even after explaining that I was helping them out, I would apologize and remove the discount or ring the order up differently (if it was in my power to do so). More often than not, they calm down after they get what they want, even if it's to their own detriment. Granted, after calming down, a not insignificant number of these folks will realize their mistake and then they have to figure out a way to save face so they can ask for the discount to be reapplied.

This man has nerves of steel. Dude said "you do what you gotta do I'm not running" to a man holding a gun in his face.

[–] Naminreb@kbin.social 40 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That young dude has 10 kids…he’s probably oblivious to violence by now.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 62 points 7 months ago (2 children)

pulls gun on man with 10 kids

Man with 10 kids opens mouth, grabs gun barrel with two hands, inserts barrel in mouth "Do it, let's go, bitch. My shift ends in 30 minutes I ain't got all day."

[–] FUBAR@lemm.ee 8 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Can’t say all that with the barrel in his mouth

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

He's had practice.

Stable behavior that indicates someone should have a firearm

[–] Anyolduser@lemmynsfw.com 21 points 7 months ago (2 children)

If and/or when they catch him he's going away for brandishing, menacing, maybe even attempted murder depending on how the case goes.

A felony conviction makes you a prohibited person, meaning no firearms or ammunition for life.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 16 points 7 months ago (1 children)

If the seller does a background check…

[–] Anyolduser@lemmynsfw.com 11 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

It will still be illegal for him to possess them or even try to obtain them.

The only way to purchase a firearm without a background check (that also isn't an express ticket to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison) is to buy a used firearm from a private individual in your state. That person also needs to not be a prohibited person themselves, cannot be a firearms dealer by trade, and the firearm must be legal to own in the state in which you both reside.

Online gun sales, new gun sales, and gun sales crossing state lines all require a background check be performed by a licensed dealer, known as an FFL. The ATF randomly audits about 10-15% of FFLs in a given year, which doesn't include the number audited as a part of investigations following up on complaints and tips.

Sorry for the wall of text. Whenever people bring up background checks the uninformed yet highly opinionated tend to come out of the woodwork.

P.S.: If any of said individuals would like to prevent cases that slip through the cracks please write your representatives to increase ATF funding for enforcement activities.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's illegal, but because firearms are so hilariously ubiquitous, there is effectively no standard of ownership or storage, and law enforcement has inadequate tools to tackle gun tracing by design, there is ample opportunity for a prohibited person to unlawfully obtain a gun in the US. Made even more laugable by the open, legal marketing of products like the P80, which are ending up in police evidence lockups across the country.

The gun culture in America is inherently anti-social and anti-establishment, so rules and laws cannot just be lightly suggested and expected that they be followed. People need to consistently go to prison and permanently lose their gun rights for their fuckups to start changing things.

[–] Anyolduser@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Did you write your representative like I asked or are you just here to vent?

Idk why people are so angry out here at 9 in the morning

LOL, I love this guy's perspective. Hear, hear!

[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

I can understand why people could be angry. They have to be awake at 9 in the morning.

Definitely doesn't excuse the gun and the racism.

Another responsible gun owner.....

[–] reverendsteveii@lemm.ee 39 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Bet I can tell you something about the voting history of the guy who couldn't understand basic math or the concept of a sale, perseverated on that fact long enough to come back to the burger king that tried to give him a deal, called the cashier a racial slur and pulled out a gun.

Sounds more like an excuse for racism and intimidation than an issue with his order.

No front license plate is a criminal’s paradise

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's Ohio tho, they have two plates...

The other car didn't have fronts either, so it's got to be a border town or something.

Taking a gun across state lines can open up a shit ton of other charges too depending on a lot of different charges.

But gun crimes like this rarely get charged, the cops don't give a shit so even if someone identifies the guy and tells cops where he's at, they probably won't do anything. Especially if it involves crossing state lines.

The reason people act like this, is they get away with it. Usually up until they actually murder someone

[–] 0110010001100010@lemmy.world 23 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ohio doesn't require front plates anymore.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago (3 children)

That's crazy, I'd hate to hear the logic they used to change that law

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 12 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They can save money by printing half as many plates.

They still charge people the same for registration, though...

[–] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I guess my question is how much does a piece of tin stamped by prison labour really cost… if it’s more than a couple $ per plate then gouvernement is overpaying just because they’re the government

I'd hate to hear the logic they used to change that law

It was wrapped up in a big transportation budget bill, one of many amendments which were designed to cut expenses.

It’s weird. Here you have to have a front plate but not necessarily a back plate because of trailers

Jail him for life

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 19 points 7 months ago (3 children)

This is such an American phenomenon.

Even without the school shootings, this would be reason enough for me to say that the second amendment needs further amending.

Do cars in the US not have license plates on the front?

I'm not seeing any on either car in the photo.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 33 points 7 months ago (2 children)

This took place in Ohio, where the front license plate requirement was actually dropped recently in 2020.

For anyone wondering, the non-front-plate states are the "rugged 21" and are:

  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Michigan
  • Mississippi
  • New Mexico
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • West Virginia

...But not regular Virginia. That's because everything is still illegal in Virginia. And luckily New Jersey drivers are also still required to have a front plate, so you can identify them coming and take evasive action.

Front license plates affect aerodynamics and the look of a car.

The only reason I was able to catch the drunk driver who hit me was because of their front plate.
